So I'm a little late getting here, but just wanted to say hello. I was banded 7/26/11 with a hiatal hernia repair and I am feeling pretty good so far. I have lost 9 lbs since my pre-op weigh-in on the 26th and each day that goes by I feel better and better. My incision sites are healing well, gas pains in the shoulder are all but gone and just a little mid chest pain after I eat or drink and minor port discomfort. My first post-op apt is 8/11 and I can't wait to see how things are going then and to be able to eat mushy food. Yesterday was the first day I was really hungry, but had a few bites of sugar-free cheesecake pudding with fat free cool whip & that did the trick. Glad to know that those few bites left me feeling full and satisfied. I go back to work tomorrow; a 10 hour shift, will definately miss my mid-day nap & will be sure to take my liquid tylenol just in case. I wish you all the best and am looking forward to sharing this journey with you all.

Kelly

Kate,

At least you know you are off the wagon and there isa reason for weight gain. You know that you can get back in gear, get ready for your fill coming up and you can start to fill up faster with less food. I haven't lost anything for over a week and I am still on freakin mushies. Hang in there, Kid.

Lisa

I'm way off wagon. Between late night hunger and my vacation, I'm up 3 pounds. I know I'm completely freaking out even though I know it is Water weight from TOM and Constipation, but the fact that I haven't lost in two weeks is enough to tell me I'm off track. I'm back in town and tomorrow I'm back to my routine. I'm so angry at myself! I'm so burned out after the big push I made to lose weight before surgery! What if I can't get it back together?

i hear you sister! i haven't gained, but i feel such a loss with no progress going on, and i got a fill friday, and i don't feel much difference...i think i need to start my exercise regime and get the head voices out when they tempt me to eat unhealthy.

Setback. Out of the four incisions, the largest one (port site) is not healing correctly. I went to the doc last week and got on some antibiotics. Today I went to take off two bandaids and it literally ripped my skin off in two more places. :( It burns so bad. Tomorrow is one month post op. Hoping this gets better soon. :(

So sorry to hear about your port site! Hang in there, hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon. I had a problem last year with a surgery spot and it turned out I was allergic to the tape I was using. It was scary but started to heal up after a few days with antibiotics. Hope everything gets better, keep us posted!

Hope you are feeling better. My doc said not to take off the steri strips on my own. Everyone is different though so listen to your doc. CAT

I had to take off my steri strips today. I was so nervous to do it, for fear of ripping off my skin too. I stood in the shower for a long time to let them soak and eventually got them off. Now I have to contend with the black/grey tape goo that is left over!

Hello everyone. Just popping in here to say hi. Banded on 7/30. Been tired off and on, but plugging away. I seem to be doing okay otherwise. Hope everyone is okay.

I got my first fill today! It was easy-breezy. I went in and laid down on a table, the dr. put a needle in my stomach, I drank some barium, and the dr. added enough saline to give me a total of 4 cc's. He also said he could see a pocket of gas trapped behind the band, which explains why my shoulder sometimes still aches. He showed me the white cloud on the x-ray machine.

I'm not supposed to have anything thicker than Tomato Soup today, then full liquids/super-soft mushies tomorrow, then full mushies/soft foods (canned tuna, soft canned vegetables, etc) Wednesday, then back to full solids Thursday. I was doing fine with my liquids until about 9 p.m., when I was suddenly STARVING. So I got some greek yogurt with honey and stirred it and stirred it and stirred it until it was just about the consistency of Tomato Soup. A slightly thick tomato Soup, but still . . . And it was way yummy. :D

I've lost a total of 10 lbs. since band day. My goal is 10 lbs a month, so I'm moving right along. Hooray!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
