Abowman1985,

I think the liquid is hard too. I can't find a Protein Powder that I like. Let me know how you are doing? I did find a huge list, 200 recipes under the Food/Exercise forum on this site. You might find something you'll like there.

REGFERN

Tried Unjury poweder and it isn't as bad as the others. I bought the vanilla but added a little Hersey's lite Syrup and a tablespoon of natural Peanut Butter with 6 oz. of skim milk. Not too bad. I think if I add a couple of ice cubes it will thicken it up. I haven't used a FULL scoop of powder yet, but 3/4. Working my way up to it. Also liking the Carnation Inst. sugar free choc. with skim milk. Even put it in the blender and added a tablespoon of peanut butter to it. My support gr. members told me to do the Low Fat cream of chicken Soup and Tomato Soup. They suggested I put FF cottage cheese blended up into my Tomato soup blended together then heat it up. It was just a thicker tomato soup. I don't eat cottage cheese so I wasn't too sure but it was ok. Yeah, something else to eat.

Getting ready to go out with 13 people to my son's favorite pizza place before he leaves for college tomorrow. Gonna go have some soup and pack my indiv. packets of Crystal Light for my Water at the restaurant. Wish me luck. Day 6 of liquids!

Regfern, I thought the same things you did about how it will change eating and drinking with friends. Years ago when I quit smoking, I would think there's no way I can do.this, what am I going to do when my friends and I are sitting around chatting and smoking, I won't be smoking, ill just be wiring there!, ill end up caving! Now, 8 years later, I still sit around outside while my friends smoke and it doesn't bother me one bit, I still sort of enjoy the smell even, gross I know! It will be the same with food I assume. Even now, on my Protein diet preop, I don't miss eating everything with them, I'm not craving anything since I'm so full of protein, so its just the habit I've got to break, and like any habit that takes years to form, it will take time to break it.

I have surgery this Friday! 2 more days! I can't believe it's happening already. I leave tomorrow at 3 am to fly to San Diego. Dr. Aceves is my doc. in Mexico (and no, he's not dangerous just because he's in Mexico! I have my post-op care taken care of too).

I've been doing the pre-op diet and have lost 6 lbs so far (not taking into account Water weight), so I'm feeling pretty good.

Hi August Banders! I'm so nervous, can't sleep! I'm 8-11 and look at it as I'm getting banded tmrw too :0 I'm a ball of questions, thoughts, my mind is racing with all these things that I want the answers to. It's so subjective how everyone heals and I guess I'm just gonna have to go in and see how my body will take the surgery. I've never had surgery except for 2 c-sections(last one being my son on 9-1-10) I have a nice family beach day planned tmrw followed my a pedicure and massage to put me into relaxation for the surgery. Best of luck to us all!!!!! We went through all these doctors, poking, prodding appointments and have one goal in mind... To lose weight!!! The power is in our hands, it's up to us to leave this shell of a fat body on the operating table and maximize the band as much as possible! We can do this!!!!!!! Prayers for us all!! :-) Cara

Thanks for the heating pad tip-didn't think of that or the pillow. I've had one c-section, and a miserable hysterectomy so I'm thinking this lap surgery will be a breeze compared!! I am taking the Super Advanced whey protien chocolate and it tastes sinful . It's so tasty/non-gritty I feel like I'm cheating. I get it at Walmart for $15. I've lost 8 lbs in 7 days and hope it continues to come off. My doc says he will cancel your procedure if you gain between the consult and pre-op visit. I believe him!! I'm saying prayers for all of you this week. Please check in here if you can, post-op, to give us some wisdom for our procedures next week. Thanks

Healthywoman,

You said you get your Protein powder at Wal-Mart? What is the brand? I need to find something that is convenient to get to. I have been using Unjury chocolate Splendor, but have to order it online.

Thanks for the info, and good luck to you with your band! Hope to join you in September!

Hi Peps, I buy th Super Advanced Whey Protein with 26 grams per scoop-can't remember the exact name-Bio something-I'm not at home to check. This brand was recommended by anothe bandster and it tastes great. I've been on it for 8 days. It comes in a big plastic tub, not a can . The label is black and orange. It will say 52 grams on the front label, but that is for two scoops. I use one scoop at a time so I can have several shakes per day, based on 1000 cals for my pre-op diet. I'm allowed a frozen meal of less than 300 cals on days 3-12, but all liquids first and last two days. I have chosen to do all liquid some extra days, just because its sooo easy-no thinking required. I make a frappe mix in the AM with Benefiber, one scoop protein, 3 tblsp hemp hearts, several icecubes and 5 ounces of Water. Tastes great and when eaten with a spoon, feels like a meal. I really haven't been hungry much either unless I don't have my shakes on schedule. I'm looking forward to hearing from our bandsters in surgery today- praying for them all. When is your procedure date,Peps? Mine is Aug 18-just can't wait to get this over and start the next chapter. HW

Hi Healthy Woman,

Thanks so much for the info. on the protein powder. I'll definitely try some. You know, so many of those protein powders taste so nasty, so I'm glad to hear you love it. I'll get some in Wal-Mart this weekend. So you get banded a week from today! Wow! I'm so excited for you. I've had such a long journey. My ins. requires that I work with a life coach for a year. Lucky thing I started that last summer. It's been long, and I was mad at first, but I've also spent this year doing a lot of research which has helped tremendously. I go to see the surgeon next Wednesday, the 17th and hopefully get at least a tentative surgery date set. I'm hoping for sometime in September. Question, what is the 'hemp hearts'? Never heard of them. What do they do? I look forward to staying in touch. Take care.......7 days!!!! Good luck!

Peg

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
