Hello I had my surgary on January 26 2011 and I have been doing good but I just

noticed about 3 weeks ago that my hair is falling out way to much. I think Im

not eating enough Protein. I started to take whey Protein Shakes but I was

wondering if this is going to be good enough or if it's the right kind of

protein to take. Help Please Yolanda.

How much Protein are you getting? My Hair loss started about 3 months in and I was getting over 100g protein a day. It's common with weight loss and surgery combined.

I am sorry to tell you that with some of us the hair loss is common with this surgery. I took all the Vitamins, even the ones especially for Hair loss. I also got in at least 80 grams of Protein a day. My surgery was in January of 2010, and I have lost half of my hair. I just recently cut it all off to even it out, and brought myself a nice wig.

I have lost 70 pounds in the process, so I do not regret any of it. Someone asked me was it worth it. My hair for the 70 pounds. I told them that I can always buy hair, but I couldn't always lose this weight.... LOL It will get better, but it will take awhile.

Your hair isn't falling off. It's breaking. It's very common and caused by a combination of rapid weight loss and Protein deficiency. The good news is that it will grow back. I started losing mine about 6-7 months post op. It lasted for several months. I'm now 3 years into my journey and my hair is almost back to normal. Don't worry. It's just part of the process for most of us.

It's normal from the trauma on your body. I've been losing mine for about 2-3 months. It's been less lately.. I have a lot of hair luckily so it's not noticeable.

I eat enough Protein, take Biotin and my regular Vitamins. I have 3 bald spots. I finally went to the dermatolagist and she said because of the surgery, perming and coloring my hair. She gave me a Shampoo and oil for my hair. I also took some blood tests and next week will go in for biopsy on the bald spots to make sure everything is ok. After all the testing and she will see what is going on then thinking of giving me shots in the head or rogaine treatments. I finally went this past weekend and had my hair trimmed all the way down. A week later I noticed my hair is growing back, especially in the bald spots. And everyone loves my short haircut. All I do is brush it and go. But like the other poster said it was worth losing 80 lbs for in 9 months. Looks like from what everyone says you will lose hair and it will grow back eventually. lol

Protein will not work magic on hairloss! Hairloss is more a result of general nutritional deprivation and/or trauma and/or hormonal. You can stuff yourself silly with Protein and your hair will still fall if its going to. If you really want to supplement a specific nutrient, a hair/nails/skin formula is going to be a better bet, its things like Biotin and Iron that are important as well as protein. This surgery is a big shock to a lot of people's bodies, often people go from many thousand calories a day down to 800 or even less overnight! Add in surgery and the hormonal disturbances that come as your body lets go of its fat stores and its not suprising that hairloss is quite common - but it does grow back. I didnt lose hair, but the condition of it six months after banding was absolutely horrid, I had to cut it all off. It came good eventually.

And i agree - its possible its breakage, not loss, that's more what happened to my hair. It can be hard to tell the difference, but I noticed my ends got really thin and straggly but it was normal near the scalp, and then a month or two later, I had heaps of little spiky bits everywhere - and I have frizzy, wooly sort of hair that I have to straighten, so it looked like an affro, lol. Mine coincided with horrid periods, painful, bloating, moodiness etc, my hormones went completely awry, but it all came good after a couple of months.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
