I just read a comment further down where it talked about having had all one's hydration fluids for the day. My surgeon's dietitian did say, as does my Manual, that coffee does not count toward my daily liquid intake.

Was told no soda due to the carbonation factor, but that fountain soda was ok. I love my diet coke and have 1 from a soda fountain every day

I gave it up about a month before surgery. For me, I can't drink soda so I don't need caffeine. Very rarely I might have some coffee. Apparently it's not good for your appetite and your hydration, thats why no caffeine. Regardless, it's not good for you ;) mind as well give it up.

Doctor told me no coffee. What I heard was like Charlie Brown's teacher talking to him: "blah, blah, blah, blah". I had coffee the morning after surgery and have had it every day since. My thoughts are I gave up EVERYTHING else but I won't give up my morning coffee. I have two cups of black coffee a day and have never had a problem.

did you drink caffeine on pre op diet?

i drank coffe before and after.coffee is something i refused to give up.if it dosnt bother your stomache then i say drink it!

My NUT actually suggested that I start my mornings with my usual cup of coffee--she says the warmth will help loosen everything up so I can easily have my protein shake later in the a.m. I haven't been banded yet (waiting for insurance approval), but I have no plans to stop drinking coffee!
