ok so i weighed myself and am getting a bit discouraged. I haven't lost any more weight! my follow up is this friday, and today marks 1 week of officially being banded. I am right at 243.2 Lbs.... why have I not lost more weight? can anyone chime in? :(

Johnathan: Try not to get discouraged....I think you've done great so far. Not being banded yet 25.5 lbs down seems fantastic to me. You are just 1 week out! Maybe going on the scale every day is not good.....just saying! I probably would be curious and scaling every day too. Keep up the progress......I'm sure you will be down some more by Friday. How did you do with the car ride after your surgery? Any problems?

thanks for the positive words! i think you may be right, about not checking every day however I didnt weigh myself yesterday, to avoid seeing it rise, i hope I am down more by friday!

car ride wasnt so bad its the two kids I have (20 months and 2 months!) that I've been taking care of that are a handful! (stay at home dad for now)

Jonathan, while I know I am super new to all of this, I can tell you from past experience that when the body wasn't getting enough calories, it kind of shocks the body into thinking it has to protect itself. Not sure if that was ever brought up as a possible occurence in the beginning. I just remember at Weight Watchers, I saw evidence of this in people that didn't eat enough and either stayed the same or gained weight. I was always taught there is still a certain amount you need. Again, not sure how much that applies to all of this since I am new and learning. Good luck!

so today i had an issue... i ate some turkey deli meat and it came back up... :( should I be worried about this?

honestly i havent been doing too well with mushys, ive been eating stuff (flat breads, some whole wheat pasta) that may not really be mushy, can you guys give me some words of encouragement or advice? thanks! :(

I am going to a Dr. Geiss seminar this tuesday can you tell me more about him and the practice. Why did you need the foley catheter and does everyone get a foley with this procedure I too am in the medical field and the thought of getting one might be a deal breaker. You are only banded for 1 week the weight will come off just use this time to heal and recover and stick to the mushy phase it might take a few fills to get to your sweet spot but so far you sound like your doing great.

Hi Jonathan!

I think what you are experiencing is 100% normal. I haven't lost as much as I thought I would and have been at a standstill for about a week. My surgeon said not to worry because this is normal. Your body is still healing (even if you feel great). Also, you don't have a fill yet. I was banded on May 25th and my hunger is back 100% - I know I could eat anything without a problem and it's REALLY tempting! But I keep sayingto myself I can do this for 4 more weeks. I also think -I didn't go through all this surgery just to go back to my old eating habits. You can get through this Bandsters-hell period! Throwing up was your body's message to you saying "Hey, slow down here and don't push it" I don't think lots of breads are the best choices. Plan your meals for the entire day and stick to that plan. Make sure you are getting your protein in first - because that will fill you. Als get the water in and take some walks with the kiddies for exercise. You'll do great!!! Thinkof your body as a GPS - when you go the wrong way it wants you to find the next available u-turn (even if that means puking).

Hello Sharp, I have been to see Dr, Geiss and have to say his staff are so nice and do the best they can to help you. I feel so bad at times when I have to keep calling to see if all my paper work has come in. Dr Geiss has a woman that works for him called Jenifer who is so understanding when I call.

I can only say that you will be in good hands with this Dr and his staff.

Hi JonathanNY

Just want to say I think you are doing a great job hang in there.

Mary

Hi Mary: I am also a patient of Dr. Geiss. I'm approved by my ins. and have a surgery date for July 25th. Maybe we will be going thru this process at the same time. Saw Dr.Geiss for a second time and he answered all my questions and seems to be an expert with the band. Makes me feel better knowing he has done so many. Good Luck.

Johnathan: You are doing great! Keep up the good work. Even though you modified your diet you are still losing steady. Slow but steady is the way to go.
