Hi Mary: I am also a patient of Dr. Geiss. I'm approved by my ins. and have a surgery date for July 25th. Maybe we will be going thru this process at the same time. Saw Dr.Geiss for a second time and he answered all my questions and seems to be an expert with the band. Makes me feel better knowing he has done so many. Good Luck.

Hi Cat Lady

I have Aetna so I hope everything will ok with that. Once we get the ok then I hope to have the date set.

Please keep in touch and let me know how things go. I am so happy for you and know you will do well.

Stay well.

Mary

hello all!

thank you for your concern cat lady!! its great to feel loved :) :)

i am doing well!

however i am able to eat rather decent sized portions, i attribute this to not having my band filled yet, i will be seeing Dr. Geiss on the 27th to get a fill hopefully.

my weight is down to 233lbs so i am slowly loosing. i would really like to loose more but i am already starting to notice a change in my appearance.

Hello Jonathan,

Nice to hear you are well. I will be getting my op with Dr Geiss on July 25th. I have been told that some people the first month or two do not loose weight as they are still healing and getting use to the band. I was told ahead of time to take things slow once banded and do not rush the stages.

Hang in there best of luck to you all will go well.

Mary

quck update all!

glad to see your all doing well! i had an appointment at dr. geiss's office, his PA that i regularly see gave me a fill, didn't hurt at all, not even the needle poke, she weighed me and i was down to 231!!!!!

slowly but surely the weight is coming off, my next goal is to hit 220lbs, I will say that i have had some complications but not necessarily due to this surgery, I have gout, and have been having some flareups, i have been taking medication to counteract the effects, also I have had to lower my Protein consumption and replace my mainly Protein meals with other things such as bread, fruit, veggies etc.

I have also had issues with rice.... no more rice.... It has made me absolutely scared of it! hope you are all doing well and i will be sure to keep you all updated! much love!

~Jonathan

Wow - 36 lbs down Johnathan.....great job. Did you have to cut the protien b'cause of the gout? How are you doing eating the bread? Any issues getting stuck. Conintued success with your band. You seem to be doing just fine. Thanks for the inspiration. cat

Yes i used to work for CVS, but right now am concentrating on my career (schoolwise)

I am cutting the Protein significantly because of the gout flareups, I am making Protein a secondary source of sustinance and keeping fiber/bread/veggies/fruits as my primary filler.

bread can get stuck and you must be VERY VERY careful to take small bites and swallow them without eating another bite too quick. rice scares me still, i will not eat more than a bite or two at all. it got very stuck and was a horrible experience. today i had 2 slices of roast beef on whole wheat bread and that too almost got stuck because I didn't chew slowly and allow the food to pass through the band, I am learning how to eat properly and take bites and allow it to settle before eating more. I am happy I am loosing the weight however i did weigh myself today and after yesterdays BBQ i have to say I went back up, but i will check again in 2-3 days to see if it went back down.

so a quick update, been busy with summer classes, but i have to say my weight loss is kind of tapering off, im at about 230-228 and keep fluctuating up and down +/- 1-3 lbs.... I am eating smaller meals but still find myself getting a bit hungry. I am also able to consume decent sized portions, I think I may need a fill, what do you guys think?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
