I'm so angry, I have been on my pre-op diet for 9 days and have only lost 1 lb. I had 2 meals last Saturday instead of 1 but that is the only time I didn't follow it. I'm getting in my 64 ozs of liquid, 4 Protein Drinks, 2 fruits and 1 meal consisting of 4oz of Protein and 2 cups of veggies. Plus I walk 4 days a week on a treadmill at is a fast speed for my short legs for 15-20 min. Park far away from the stores so I have to walk further. Does anyone have any suggestions, I only have 5 days left. Getting depressed and afraid my surgery will be cancelled.

I'll bet your body may be in a starvation mode with the reduced calorie intake.

For me, the pre op diet was to shrink the liver to help facilitate the surgery. The weight loss was an added plus. I didn't loose all that much.

Pre op diet is yuck-o but believe me it will be a distant memory when you are through surgery and recovering.

Good luck and hang in there!

I am not allowed to have fruit or a meal on mine, i'm liquids only....plus, I have zero energy to do any kind of exercising. i basically go to work, sit at my desk for 8 hours, then come home and sit on the couch. it takes all the energy i have to make it to the subway and back. I have lost 15 pounds as of this morning. i think the poster above has it right, you are in starvation mode and probably building muscle from all the exercising. i am only losing Water weight, and not 'real' fat. i have had so many liquids, i'm floating. although i have lost 15 pounds, i will probably gain most of that back when they pump me full of fluids during surgery. i really don't consider this 15 pounds a real weight loss. it's just the excess Fluid i have on my body (plus, i have a lot of weight to lose)

just go easy on yourself for the next 4 days. there will be plenty of time for real weight loss. the goal here is to shrink the liver and not to lose weight. you are going to be fine.

May 4th, here we come!

I'm kind of in the same boat as you.... My surgery is on Tuesday and I've only lost 2 lbs. :( I haven't followed the diet "exactly" but I haven't strayed too far either! I'm only allowed to drink the Protein Drinks and eat Jell-O. I would KILL for some veggies or protein I can actually chew! I don't even care what it is! Haha! I'm hoping my surgery won't be cancelled too.. I don't THINK it will be, but still makes me nervous. I don't know how to loose weight when I'm already eating practically nothing.

I'm glad I found this post.. I'm starting to get nervous that I'm doing it wrong. My pre-op instructions tell me that I can have 4 Protein Shakes (OR bars) and one lean cuisine each day. I've stuck to this completely since day 1, although my program coordinator said I could make a chicken breast if I had extra calories left over (my limit is 1200, and at least 65 grams of protein). Again.. I've done this all totally right. I've only lost 5 lbs, and I just feel like it isn't working right. My surgery is on the 6th, and the diet started the 22nd.. so today is day 10. It would be nice to be able to see my liver and check if it's shrinking! Golly. I guess I'm just worried that my body is screwed up compared to everyone else's.. it's probably just me being paranoid, because 5 lbs is a heck of a lot more than I've lost in a long time. I'm worried about so much right now I'm not sure what to even do with myself though, lol. :(

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
