no restricrion

Anybody out there banded with no fill. Can you eat a healthy diet without ever vomiting. I mean can u have the chicken and the lettuce and not vomit. It just seems that with a fill I may not be able to have some foods, but if the band itself provides enough restriction can a person leave It like that particularly if they are losing weight and not get a fill.

I can eat anything and everything, which I LOVE! Couldn't imagine not being able to eat something because I want/need to lose weight. It's all about moderation not completely ridding of any type of food. I will say that I have gotten stuck and PB'd, but it's usually due to me eating too fast/not chewing/using the fork as a spoon (oops!)

I have no fill and I can eat anything I want. I have restriction just from the band. If that does ever go away (hopes it doesn't) I will not allow myself to become so tight that I can't eat things. I have never PB'd or been stuck or slimed or anything

@jess55 I think I may opt for the no restriction only because I feel this may work for me as well. Good to know there are others out there. So is it that the band is too tight that's why some people have issues with some foods.

Some people do fine with just the band. The band works by putting pressure on the vagus nerves which tell the stomach to quit producing ghrelin (the hunger hormone). Some people get enough pressure just with the band. Others need varying amounts of fill. So if you aren't hungry, then leave it where it is so you can eat the foods you need to without getting stuck. Too many people make the mistake of looking for physical restriction and end up overfilled and unable to eat the 'good for you' foods. Which is not to say that you won't have problems on some days since the band tightens and loosens on its own.

I am 5 mo post op and no fills. Flouro shows my band is working just as it should. I can eat anything, but I do need to take smaller bites, chew well and eat slower over all. I also have no problem taking meds like fish oil caps.

Now don't misunderstand me, I do have restriction, just with the band (and whatever was in it from surgery). If I did start to get hungry and start struggling I would totally get a fill. I just don't want to end up to tight. This past week I have been struggling a bit but I believe it is due to TOMs imminent arrival and not due to me losing restriction. So when you do get banded don't feel you have to struggle just because you are afraid to vomit. Just realize the band is not going to stop you from eating, it just helps curve your hunger

I'm so glad someone asked this question!! I am a month out and no Fluid in my band yet either. I've done really well on my own with whatever restriction I have. I can eat almost anything except ground beef if its too dry. I haven't tried bread, rice or Pasta though because I really want to stay away from them anyways since these are things I ate to much of before surgery. I am supposed to get my first fill in a week but I'm really back and forth on it. I have the same fear I won't be able to eat things like chicken, broccoli and apples like I can now but I also don't want to feel so hungry so often. Does anyone know if the fill help with the hunger?

Yes, the fill helps with hunger.

Thanks!

I am so happy this question was asked! I have only been banded for 2 weeks...I have really noticed that I can not eat much at all...the other day I had a little shredded cheese, diced ham, and French dressing and I felt like I had Thanksgiving dinner...this makes me so happy because I don't want to get a lot of fills. My Dr even told me he didn't think I would require a lot. My main thing is controlling my head hunger...today I stayed in the house all day and my head kept telling me I was hungry...I prayed for strength and luckily I didn't pig out..I am scheduled for my first fill may 24th ...I may get a really small fill..I just never want to be so tight that I can't eat or get sick..I refuse to put myself through that...if I get everything together mentally and emotionally I will be able to achieve success! Good luck on your journey

I went a year and a week without ever getting a fill and lost 70lbs without one fill. Then on Dec 30 I got my first fill of only 2 cc's then on Mar 2 another 1 cc and I have trouble some days and some days I dont depends on the mood of the band.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
