What do you say to someone that thinks getting Lapband is for lazy people? I really want to tell him how ignorant he is.

There isn't anything you can say to someone that dumb because they have already desided. You know the truth along with millions more of us, and that's all that matters!

It just drives me nuts when he makes comments. My friend and his fiance was thinking of getting it done. and he is so against it. She is only 24 and pushing 300 pounds. He thinks she will be able to go to the gym and diet and lose it on her own. He peobably thinks the same thing about me but never says it to my face. Wouldn't you want your loved one to be healthy? Hello if it was that easy for us we would have done this by now. I think it just pushes me more to be successful. Being banded in May and you best believe I'm going to push myself to get the results I want.

Kristen, were you talking to my husband?!?! LOL Omg... sounds just like him. My friend had RNY a couple years back and he tore into her about how lazy she was. She was in tears and I yelled at him to stop!! She was so hurt that she wouldn't come over to the house when he was there. Here it is years later, I am now fat and looking to get WLS and what say he - not a darn thing!!! LOL

I am not sure why people are so rude and think they understand what you are going through. I get this a lot at work with this thin girl who constantly ask me if I worked out the night before. WTH?!!? Why do you care? She said she is just looking out for me, but I am sick of it!!! I even got a candy bar and walked past her eating it. She said.. oh I wish I could eat that but I am trying be bikini perfect by June... pfft.. Bikini-smini!!!

Needless to say, I won't be telling her about my surgery :) She can kiss my fat butt!!

That's mean!

This is by no means an easy way out. I don't think skinny people quite understand the addiction, and disease part of obesity. I'm not fat by choice. Sure, I like food and all that, but it's uncontrollable. Nobody would intentionally eat themselves to 300lbs.

The band for me is just built in motivation, it's always gonna be there. It doesn't do the work for me, and I still have to diet and exercise, but we need some physical restraint, and to retrain ourselves on what is a proper portion.

If people only could understand that this is the most difficult decision and it will effect each and every one of us every day for the rest of our lives. It certainly is not going to be the "easy" way out. Best of luck!!

I think that people enjoy feeling superior; and fat is the last thing people can broadcast the superiority over. No one would say to a recovering alcoholic "I'm better than you because I don't drink." I am quite convinced that I was chosen for a lay off from my last perm job because I was fat. I've had several coworkers who told me the same thing after I expressed my thoughts to them. My boss however was an high functioning alcoholic; and bragged all the time about their blow out parties on the weekend. But she felt superior to me because my addiction was food and not booze.

Day Dreamer you are too funny!! He says that people just need to diet and exerciseand that it is a life style. He used to go to the gym and eat well, but now all he does is sit at home, drink beer, and go out to eat all the time. Maybe he just wants make me feel like shit, but he shouldn't be the one to talk. I think the people that make this choice care about living and being healthy and obviously we need that extra help. This choice is better than to go on and try doing it on our own when we are just going to make the same mistakes and maybe even keep gaining. I just don't understand why loved ones don't always support their sig. other that is choosing wls. I'm just tired of being fat and am doing something about it! K I think I'm done venting lol.

People like him do not realize that not one part of the band is easy by any means. Is it easy to get things stuck and try like hell to get it out, learn how to eat slow like a snail. Count every single thing you put in your mouth and for those with scale obsession does he think it is easy to weigh yourself every day and not see a change for months on end before it starts moving again and does he think its easy to be on liquids after a fill for almost three days and if your too tight its painful. Ooooo MMMMMM Geeee I could go on forever just tell him I said F--- You stupid A--- cause you will be getting one too if you keep drinking beer. If anyone thinks it is easy hell no it is not one bit.

I don't know that it does any good trying to explain. These people have no clue what it's like to be hungry all the time. They eat a meal and the hunger goes away for several hours. Their belief that we can do it just by eating only when we're hungry, eating less and exercising is rooted in their belief that fat people are lazy slobs who lack self control and discipline.

If I lacked self-control and discipline, I'd weigh 600 pounds. The *only* reason I don't is because I've spent my life dieting and starving. When one of my relatives said I just need to suck it up and be hungry...cuz all it takes is self-control...I told him let's have a challenge. We'll both eat 500 calories per day (cuz it doesn't matter to me...I was hungry eating 500 calories or 2000 calories) and see who 'breaks' first. He already knew he wouldn't last a day because he was supposed to be on Clear Liquids the day before his triple heart bypass and didn't make it until noon...and that was with tremendous motivation and knowing it was only going to be one day. (Yes, they cancelled his surgery.)

People who don't deal with constant unrelenting hunger, don't 'get it' and I don't think they ever will.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
