Hey all! I know I am bringing back a really old thread, but I wanted to know if the insurance problems with UHC and Dr Spivak had been solved. Can anyone shine some light on that!

I had my port revised by Dr Alanis in Houston. He takes UHC and the hospitals he uses are also in-network. Other than long waits in the waiting room before seeing him, I have had a VERY POSITIVE experience with him and would recommend him to anyone.

I am sure that there are several good Doctors in the Houston area. As for me, I am down in the Clear Lake Area, and found that Dr. Michael Story was the best! I was banded on 12/30/08, and have had no problems.....

I was banded by Dr. St. Laurent in October 08 and self-paid as well. I don't have a ton of weighy to lose and knew my insurance wouldn't pay so I didn't even bother. I absolutely ADORE him. He's wonderful! He is thorough and very concerned about your needs. He is there to see you succeed! He is genuine and very down to earth. I always see him and never anyone else. I feel like he truly cares about me and my success! He’s wonderful. I’ve had two friends banded in Houston by other doctors. One of them has had their band removed after only having it a year because her “stomach flipped”. The other friend has no doctor here now that can do her fills. I am so happy that I researched it and have Dr. “Eye Candy”. He’s fabulous!   biggrin.gif

Hi, I'm new to the website and new to the lap band!

Dr. Spivak performed my surgery last Friday and as a physician in training I can tell you that he is top caliber. I would not have undergone the procedure with any other surgeon in the area. In my brief encounters thus far he's been very understanding and very hands on- he even took pictures of the procedure for me (which I thought was awesome.)

I do have a question though, and since I'm new I figure I'd just post it here:

Does anyone know where/when Dr. Spivak's lap band support groups take place?

Also, how long should I wait to visit his office after surgery? I didn't have a barium swallow/chest xray the day of my surgery, and am wondering when most patients go back for a checkup, fill, or whatever.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
