For my shakes, I bought the Monavie shake wich has about 18 gm of Protein and many other nutrients. I made my shake with soy milk which added more protein to the shake and to change flavor added cherries or bannanas. I also bought chia seed which gave it some texture and added more protein. I used the blender to make it and the flavor was a lot better. I had three shakes a day and lost 16 pounds on the two week diet.

I also made some shrimp Soup and ate just the broth, beef broth with shank beef and vegetables and had just the broth, chicken soup with vegetables and had just the broth.

Are you just drinking Protein shakes? I'm on day 5 of the diet but it seems like each doctor/hospital have different pre-op diets. I'm allowed to have the Protein Shakes (need to be 20+ grams of Protein and 5 gm or less of carbohydrate) sugar free Jello, broth, sugar free popsicles, yogurt without fruit, tea, sugar free beverages like crystal light (no soda) and Water. I have to do Clear liquids only the last 2 days so for me that will be Sunday 1/9 and Monday 1/10. I'm good until about 3:00-4:00 and then I'm literally starving but it passes in a half hour or so if I have some broth. My husband has been so awesome. He's been making dinner and trying to have it cooked and eaten by him and the kids before I get home from work so I don't have to look at it. If I can do this, I can do anything!

Keep your head up!

You need to try the PROTEN shakes from Cost Co. They have 30 grams of Protein and only 5 carbs. I also bought Isopure drinks from GNC. They are a crystal light clear fruit drink and have 40 grams of protein in a 20 oz bottle. Orange tastes like tang. If it weren't for these I would not have gotten through my two weeks post op. I am 7 weeks post op and am down 38 lbs. I still drink a shake for one meal a day.....great source of Vitamins and minerals and low cal. Good luck.

if youre pre-op you can put fruits in your shake....my surgeon wants me to NOT add fruit to my shakes once im post-op, until im on a solid foods diet again. what ive seen people do is make shakes with fruits and whatnot and then pour it through a strainer before they drink it! i think thats pretty brilliant.

My surgery is tomorrow, YAY!!! I have been making smoothies out of my protein..Protein, Water, ice and banana and it is so much better than just plain with water!! I have to hold my nose and drink it with just water.

I bought a couple of these today! i got grape and alpine punch...couldnt find orange. But youre right, they are pretty good! There is a weird aftertaste, but it passes pretty quickly and really diminishes the colder the drink is. I think I might check a different GNC and see if they have anymore variety....there was a blue one too. have you tried that?

Hi!

I was banded on July 1st, and have lost about 100 lbs so far....hang in there, YOU CAN DO THIS!!

more importantly..you NEED TO DO THIS...the pre op liquid diet is to shrink your liver, and make your surgery safer..the post op is to let your body heal...seriously...it aint pretty, but you need to do this...birighter days are coming!

so...

I do basically 2 shakes...(still)

I like the EAS shakes..great Protein, low carb, you can get them at bjs...

now I get the choc. ones, but I really like the strawberry..

I also do te EAS Protein powder...

so for the choc ones, I use a shake a scoop of powder, a half banana, and a scoop of pbutter...(yum)

I also do a berry variation

a scoop of vanilla powder, a splash of v8 splash, some frozen berries, and a few scoops of greek yogurt, or an eas shake...you can mix it up by changing the flavors, but make sure to keep it hi protein..it will keep you fuller longer.....

I would do this again in a heartbeat...it aint perfect, but its the best option out there!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
