Needle wouldn't penetrate port for a fill

Hello Everyone,

I was banded on July 20th of this year, I have not been able to have one fill yet. The first attempt was 8 weeks out of surgery, doc just heard clicking sounds when attempting to access port, withdrew about 15cc of red brownish fluid from a hematoma/seroma that had developed near the port. She suspected a flipped port which was ruled out with xrays. Fast forward to October, tried a fill under flouroscopy, needle was in correct position but could not penetrate port membrane. The PA said he had never seen anything like it. I am having port replacement this Wednesday. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of this before. I have a realize band 11cc by the way.

very scary! im so sorry that happened to you. thats a bandsters worst nightmare. who the hell is ur doctor? a crap one? how could that be possible? i have heard of that before. and ive heard of them not being able to FIND the port. or port flipping. or port incision infection. but ur case sounds iffy. the surgeon had no answers for u? just a defected broken port maybe?? shouldnt they test the ports before they put them in

I had the same thingn happen....I was banded on october 6th of this year and was unable to get a fill....they also heard that clicking sound, not a good thing! They did the port revision on december 2nd and everything was fine, then i developed an infection at the port site and I had the whole system removed on december 20. These things happen...it sucks, but this is life!

Thanks for your feedback. I would love to change Dr.'s at this time, but I'm HMO patient and I'm worried that the process will be a long one to get all new approvals and pre op work with the new Dr's office.
