Followup to the unflavored mixed with beef broth I tried for dinner last night: Don't do it. It was nasty. The flavor was too intense, and no matter what I did to it to season/modify it, there was no way out. It went down the sink.

Ended up drinking a Muscle Milk Light shake for dinner. 20g Protein, 10g carbs. I'm finding the flavor is consistent, and it's quickly turning into the only shake flavor I can drink. I was a real fan of unjury pre-op, but for some reason post-op, I'm not feeling it nearly as much.

Anyone else finding their post-op taste buds are different?

I'm also finding my love of coffee is subsiding, too. Used to drink several cups every morning. Now I drink maybe a half cup, and I'm done. Just not into it. Since I live near Seattle, home of Starbucks and Tullys and a zillion other coffee roasters, I may be run out of town! LOL! :)

Dave

I used to drink Unjury for the first month or two postop, but now I drink Premier Protein shakes (160 calories, 5g carbs (3g of fiber), 30g protein). I drink one for lunch around noon. I still think the taste is good in Unjury shakes but I really like the taste of the Premier Protein (until I started drinking these I also drank Muscle Milk which I also liked the taste of). I think, even more than the taste, its just the convenience of being able to grab the shake out of the fridge and not mess around with blenders and things. Plus I don't need to order it online - I can go to costco and just pick up a case.

I get the Muscle Milk Light at costco, Do they sell Premier Protein Shakes there, too?

Can anyone tell me about Isopure? I'm looking for any alternate to all the nonstop sweetness. I'm not a big sweets eater, and I'm really tired of it already. Any options out there?

Hey Dave, yep they sell the Premier Protein at costco - its actually the reason why I joined, primarily. We've belonged to Sam's Club for ages which is where I was getting Muscle Milk but then I found out about Premier Protein from someone on LBT and the nutrition facts are just so much better, so I decided to try it out. I ordered the first case online, really liked it, and then decided to join costco where the cases are cheaper than online and I don't need to pay the 15-20 dollars shipping every time. Anyways, I really LOVE it. Its chocolate, but its not quite as sweet as MM. I really do like the taste and I love that most of the carbs are Fiber, which I need. And on a separate note, I really like Costco. We're still members at Sam's Club but I think Costco has higher quality items. Definitely glad we joined!

Hey, thanks for that! I was already planning a trip to Costco tomorrow anyway, so I'll pick up a case. One thing you may not know is that if you buy a case of something at Costco and it doesn't work out for you, you can return the remainder and get your full money back. So if you got something to try and it just wasn't good for you, they'll refund the money as if the item was unopened. (My spouse is a refund cashier at Costco.)

If you compare Costco and Sam's item for item, I think you'll find the general quality at Costco is better. If you decide you like Costco better, you should ask Sam's to refund your membership fee. Not sure if they'll do that, but I know Costco will.

I didn't like the Isopure - weird tasting, when you drink it it feels like it just sucks all the moisture out of your mouth.

Oh thats cool - I had no idea! Definitely good to know if we don't like something that we buy. I don't eat meat, but my fiance does and they have USDA Prime and USDA Choice there. So instead of buying meat at whole foods (which is the same USDA Choice that they have at Costco) I'll just buy it for him at Costco. I know they also have some organic meat too which is great. And I get my Fiber gummies there now too.

I probably won't cancel my Sam's membership yet because in my hometown, there isn't a Costco, just a Sam's (which is why were members there, as are my parents). But if Costco ever comes to town, I'm sure we'll also cancel our Sam's membership (my parents also like Costco much better).

As you go along, you'll find Costco's meats, produce, and fresh deli items are especially excellent. One thing about the USDA meats is that the price per pound is usually a lot lower than in grocery stores. The family pack bulk items, like the steaks that come four or five in a pack, are a great deal. Break the pack into individual serving sizes, and save some serious cash.

I'll check closer on the Gummy Vitamins too. I'm using Unjury's chewable Multivitamin now, and it's okay, but it's gritty. Now if I can only find a replacement for the Calcium citrate tablets I'm usng. They're okay, but huge. And I need to take four daily...

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
