I can feel the band, can you?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I was banded in July and am doing well with weight loss. However, I can feel the band. It is uncomfortable quite a bit of the time. It feels like a tight bra that has settled under my ribs. My doctor says I am especially sensitive to the band. I work mostly at a desk at my job and need to go lay down in my car during my breaks to relieve the discomfort. I do well on the weekends at home, mostly feeling pretty good though there is never a time that I am not aware of the band.

My friends at work who are banded say they never even know it is there except when they eat.

Is anyone else having a sensitivity to the band and have you found anything that relieves it?

I am wanting the band taken out as soon as reasonable after i reach my goal, but am willing to be patient and hope the sensitivity lessons over time.

Thank you for any input, suggestions, and insights you may have!

I had the SAME thing, and still do on occasion. After my surgery it was SO bad that I was preparing myself mentally to have the band removed. One morning I woke-up in tears because it hurt so bad it felt like I couldn't breathe. My husband is a chiropractor and luckily knew how to "adjust" my stomach.

He had me lay on my back and while breathing all of my air out, I press down on my stomach (right below left side rib cage). You breathe all the way out, press your stomach down (towards your feet, not towards your butt!;)) and towards your midline. Hold it down and take a few deep breaths. I still have to "adjust" my stomach on occasion.

I hope this helps!

Hang in there.

I could feel my band for a few weeks after surgery. It was horrible! It felt like someone had stuck their hand in my chest and was squeezing my stomach. Luckily, I am 8 weeks post op now and no longer can feel it. Maybe its positioned badly?

Feeling my band/port inside me was one of my biggest fears presurgery. Fortunately, I can't feel either. Not in any way.

Thank you for your response! You are lucky to be married to a chiropractor. I wish I trusted someone enough to adjust it -- Im nervous trying to adjust it myself, afraid I'll make the band slip. Just yesterday I realized that all my life I have sucked in my stomach muscles out of habit. So I have been practicing relaxing my stomach muscles all the time. The sensation of my band is "better", but I can still feel it. Im hoping it will disapate soon.

I really appreciated your response. I was starting to think I was some sort of freak or something. Im glad you found a solution for your discomfort!

Hi

thank you for reading and answering my post. Im glad the sensation disappeared for you. Did it just disapate or did it go away all of a sudden? My doctor took another xray to see how the band is positioned and he says it is fine. Im hoping the sensation has to do with my habit of sucking in my stomach muscles -- life-long habit that Im no longer aware of doing. Yesterday I started focusing on noticing when I do that and then relaxing those muscles and Ive been feeling better. Though I still feel the band. Maybe I just need to be patient as my body adjusts and accepts the band. I really dont know.

Thank you again for replying.

Glad to hear you dont feel either! Thats the way it's supposed to be :) Im still glad I got banded. Im just really wanting to find a way to work with it now that it's in there. Im so excited to be losing weight and it is now obvious to others and Im getting compliments!! But the discomfort of feeling the band kinda dampens everything. Funny thing is I feel pretty good on the weekends. Its the work days that are the most uncomfortable!

thank you for answering my post.

I feel my port, but not my band. I do find that while sitting down to eat sometimes it's uncomfortable, but I associate that to the food not going thru the band.

hi

most people i talk to can feel their port. I havent had any problems there. i love your holiday ticker!

There are times I feel discomfort because I do sit at a desk for 12 hours a day. During those times I have to stretch or stand up. Sometimes I feel like it's because I'm all scrunched up.

Me too! Thank you for sharing that. The most comfortable position for me is laying down.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
