December 2010 Bandsters out there?

Recommended Posts

I know some people can't eat in the morning.. but I would think that is a symptom of being too tight... but I guess everybody is different. I eat probably my biggest meal for Breakfast usually. I also think it depends how people want to work with their band, some want it SO tight, that they can't really eat.

I'm kinda stalled too, been eating like crap, I just got back from a surprise trip to Vegas.. gotta get back on it!

I agree! I talked to MY doctor today, and she concurred..she said I should be able to eat in the morning, taking in my protein..

She put in .4 cc's. so now I have 3.7 cc's total. On liquids for at least 24 hours. I was down 3.5 pounds in a month. She says I am right on track..

YAY~

I finally had my first fill this past Saturday ~ 2 1/2 CC's. There are a couple of reasons why I wasn't able to gett a fill sooner.... 1) my insurance would only cover it if it was at least 90 days after surgery... and 2) I was going on vacation... and my Dr. didn't want me traveling across the country for my first fill (just in case I would be too tight).

So........... this past month I was totally stalled. It was pretty frustrating... plus I found myself to be REALLY hungry. Well, so far the fill seems to be working.. and I'm not hungry. My Dr. has me on liquids for 2 weeks... YES ... 2 weeks. Seems everyone here is only on liquids for a couple of days. Well.... I asked why.. and they told me that they have found it very successful in "jump starting" the weight loss again. I have a hypo-thryroid... so I definately could use a "jump start". I'm gonna give it my best shot. So far.... so good. If a few more days go by and I find myself craving solids... I'll call my Dr. and see what he says.

I also have to admit that prior to my fill, I was able to eat everything and anything. On vacation, I found myself going back to "BAD" habits. So, maybe, if nothing else, the 2 weeks on liquids will get me back on the right track.

Today is a good SV for me. I weighed in at 207.4#. Not a number to be proud of but my highest weight ever was 308# so that means I've officially lost 100#. I'm so happy, with my yo-yoing I've lost more than that, but you know. I am also feeling so close to onederland I can taste it. Hopefully before the end of the month!

Yikes 2 weeks!? I was on liquids for less than 24 hours after my fill. But yea, I can see it as a jumpstart... but that isn't healthy weight loss though.

I know it is, and I feel like 100 times better about myself then I did before the surgery. But you know we all want to be smaller than that

Uggg..gained 7 lbs on vacation. Down 3 lbs in the 3 days I have been home, so I am hoping by the end of the weekend I will be back where I was before I left!

I am starting to panic about the whole "40% of your excess weight" and "50 lbs lost is the norm" generalizations. That is where I am now almost after only 4 months and I am not willing to let it be only this much. The weight gain on vacation really scared me. I know why I gained it - eating bread (for the first time since surgery) and ice cream twice. I KNOW BETTER. I keep repeating to myself "it's done, nothing you can do about it now, move on to today, it's a fresh start".

I didn't get a fill at my last visit a week and a half ago because I was down 10 lbs., and getting stuck once a week or so. Now, I am thinking it is time...good thing I anticipated it and made my appointment for 3 weeks out. So I get to go next week and maybe get a .5 or 1cc fill.

BTW...great job Jess - 100 pounds is AMAZING no matter how you slice it!!!!!

Hey December bandsters! My surgery was Dec 20th and I have lost 37 pounds total and 25 pounds since day of surgery. These numbers dont seem that big to me but then again my highest was 254. I know it's easier for people who are in their high 200s/300s to lose weight faster but is 25 lbs since december 20th a good enough number? *sigh*

I have lost 27.5 in the long run, altho the day of surgery I gained 10, due to fluids, and I had to lose that a second time, which really bummed me, but not a hard 10 to lose..

I have to say that most days this is NOT hard to do..we made this decision to have the surgery..

no one forced us to do this..

we do/did this for US..

becauses we are ...

WORTH it ladies..

so worth it!!

Same, I had an impromptu vacation this weekend, and I didn't eat well, and I drank, definitely didn't help my diet.

Me too I'm at 50 LOL.. and I started being lazy agh. I got back on track today, refusing myself to not eat anything I'm not aloud to eat!

Glad to hear you were able to get a fill! 2 weeks of a liquid diet does seem excessive. After a fill I have a couple days of liquids.

That is wonderful! You should be so proud of yourself!! :D

Have you been getting stuck? I think it is time for a fill as long as you're not getting stuck. For me at least, bread does not work when I am restricted!

I think you're doing great. Think how happy you'd have been pre band to be losing this fast! I used to dream of losing 4 pounds a month and you've lost faster than that. Comparing ourselves to others is not productive. Be proud of your accomplishmnets!

I am going in for another deflate in the AM. I had the 2 deflates then a small fill, .75cc on Friday, and have had evening stomach pains, some vomiting and reflux each night since Sunday. I have about 4.75cc or 5cc in my band.

Congratulations to everyone on their weight loss so far!! Last saturday we went out of town to throw a "No More Chemo" party for my 5 year old son. He just finished his last chemo treatment YEAH But I had seen most of our family in mid Feb and have only lost about 10 lbs since but everyone was going on about how much I had lost. I think it was because of the new clothes I had finally bought where before I was still wearing my old clothes. I have went from a size 26 to an 18 which is so exciting. I had another fill today it was a small fill .3 ccs. I am over 5 cc's but not sure exactly how much is in there. I had lost 8.5 lbs in 3 weeks!! I had only lost 2 lbs in the 6 wks prior so I was happy to know I was back on track.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
