I'm Scheduled for November 17th/ will returning to work 4 days after surgery be ok?

Recommended Posts

So this journey started for me about 5 years ago. I started thinking about this procedure and considered going to Mexico to have it done. I went through the process of trying to be approved by my insurance company with no success. Finally I have decided to take this show on the road up to Nashville and I'm doing it self-pay. My family has been so supportive and my mom is even splitting the cost of the procedure (12K) with me.

Yes, I'm really excited that the procedure is going to be behind me in 2 weeks, but now I'm concerned about my life following having it done. I hope that I am able to shake my "fat-girl mentality" that has kept me in the current state of weight for so long. I am fully aware that this is a tool to assist me in my goal of a healthier and sexier me!!

I work in an office and my position does not require me to do a ton of running around and no lifting at all. Will returning to work 4 days post surgery be a bad idea?

I hope that I can see my goal of an 85lbs lose in 6-8 months, but I also realize it didn't take 6-8 months to gain it so it may take longer to lose it.

Its almost that time!! So much for having a cocktail for my bday (Nov 19th) but a band is a pretty darn great gift!! Thanks me!!

I actually think 4 days post op to return to work would be tough. The first three days are the worst but even the 4th day, you're pretty sore and sorry for yourself.

I took two weeks off work and probably could have managed going back after a week (office job too), but even then it would have been a little bit of a struggle.

Good luck!

Wow, this is me! I had my birthday yesterday and just got everything scheduled. Surgery is Dec. 3rd (Fri) and I had hoped to go back Monday. I have a friend who did it on a Thursday and went back Monday. I will be interested in what gets posted to your inquiry. Good luck!

Similar to me, too. Thought about Mexico, but then decided locally. If I decide to do this, my surgery date will be Tuesday 12/28. I was planning on taking the rest of the week off, but then working from home the following week.

I hope that if that is all the time that you can take off that it is enough for you. Will you be able to add extra days if you need them?

Yep, I thought about doing it locally after I was denied and finally just decided to go to Mexico. I was happy with the place, but not so happy with the results so far. I'm 4 weeks post op and have gained all the weight back that I lost pre-op. So frustrating? I think to myself, did I really get a lapband? Why am I so hungry all the time. I still need to go in for my first fill in 2 weeks, but I really thought I would be able to feel something different in 4 weeks.

As far as time off.... I had mine on Thursday and went back to work (desk job) on Monday. It was a sore, but manageable.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
