Access of port 4 days post-op

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I was banded 10-18-2010 and everything went great, minimal pain in left shoulder and gas pain. Able to swallow Clear liquids with no problem. Went home and no issues and on day 4 woke up and had a hard time getting liquids down. I tried all temperatures of liquids but no change. I had an increase in pain around chest and felt lots of pressure especially after swallowing. Went back to surgeon and he actually took out some Fluid (apparently he leaves a "neutral" amount of Fluid in the band at insertion.) Instantly I felt so much better. Fluids go down fine now and xray shows band is in correct placement. He stated he had never had this happen before and never had to access a port so soon after placement. It didn't hurt at all and I no longer have any fear of fills (the bonus). Just wondering if anyone else had any similar experiences.

Thanks...Nic

I've heard of it before. It's not all that uncommon, just a first for your doc. :blushing:

They thought they might have to take some of my "starter" fill out too, but I finally settled down to where I could tolerate fluids. Good thing as my port area was VERY tender. I couldn't even think of something accessing that area 4 days out.

I was banded 10-13 and 6 days later I still couldn't get anything down (I had been admitted to the hospital 3 different times over those 6 days for dehydration). On the 6th day my dr. Finally took out my original fill. He had never had that happen either. He just figured it was all due to swelling. He took that fill out and INSTANTLY I was feeling better. Even he said wow the color just came back to your face. He said he could physically see the improvement in my health when I could finally breath and drink. So yeah at least we know what a fill/unfill feels like but now I'm scared of getting a fill in fear of not being able to drink again.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
