Surgery date November 10th... Anyone else?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

Just checking in with everyone to see how they have been. I know most of us are on pre op diets now, or will be soon as Monday is the first! Hard to believe that we will be banded in 11 short days!

I hope that everyone holds up through Halloween, and fights the urge to raid the candy bowl tomorrow.

I was just thinking today how surgery is only 11 days away... can't believe it. So excited and nervous at the same time. I think I'm doing okay with my diet... could be a little bit better but def better then how I used to eat.

By the way... what time is everyone's surgery on the 10th? Mine is scheduled at 8am and I have to check into the hospital at 6am. Yikes that's early! :wink2:

I check in at 7 with a placement at 9 (Pacific Time). Good news is that I get to go home that day. I wont really be going home, but staying with friends because my husband is out to sea, but you get the idea

I'm hoping to go home the same day too. They make sure you can get down so many ounces of Water and are able to get up and walk on your own. Based on the forums seems like most people go home within a couple hours!

I am on day 3 of the pre-op diet and doing pretty well. I can't stop peeing because of all the liquid, but I figure that I am burning calories walking back and forth so many times a day. Let me just say that my three favorite things right now are the sugar-free chocolate pudding, cream of wheat, and the NSA chicken broth.

The time for my surgery is a mystery to me. I have to call the afternoon before to get my time slot.

This is super exciting and I cannot wait to get on with it already!!

I think being nervous is normal for everyone. It's surgery and any kind of surgery is scary!

I've been reading the forum here called "Surgery day stories" and that has seemed to help me with the mental part. Doesn't seem quite so bad when other people talk about their experiences on surgery day. Check it out!

Take care and good luck to you...

I'm coming to end of day 2 of my 7 day pre-op liquid diet. (My surgeon refereed to it as a "starvation diet". (20 grams of Protein per day, no solids whatsoever.) On the plus side, the scale says I've "lost" 10 pounds. The downside is that I almost stole my son's McD's fries!

So...how's your day been?

Im in the final stretch of the liquid diet and I have 3lbs to lose before Wednesday morning. Ive decided that Im gonna have a nice (but sensiable) dinner tomorrow with a friend since its my last day at my job. Then its back to the grindstone for me. Ive found that Im not as hungry as I thought I was before after 3 weeks of this. I think sometimes I miss the variety of food. I mean, what Im "eating" now is food, but not the food Ive been used to. I need to start looking for recipes that would be good for me in the future without falling into the same old meal (skinless baked/grilled chicken and veggies) every night.

LOL that's funny!!

I am actually one of the lucky ones that still gets to eat one meal a day however I've been making an effort to eat a healthy meal. Today one of my co-workers decides to get french fries and eat them in my office and you know how french fries smell... OMG I was about to kill him!

Over all feeling good though. Looking forward to my band and starting a new me.

My kids decided to eat out tonight. Thanks...I think! The scale says 13 lbs. I would never have thought I could "eat" a diet the doc has me on, but now I'm curious to see just how much weight I can lose in 7 days. (Yeah, yeah, I know a lot of it is Water - but so what!)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
