Hi everyone- Newbie here. Just banded on 10/07. So it has been one whole week!

Been reading alot of threads about pain levels, effects of the gas, advancing the post-op diet....... and I am seeing many similarities, and it is reassuring.

However, I haven't seen much in the way of how others are doing emotionally.

I have a ton of printed info, much of it contradicting another source... on what to eat, how long to take to eat it, etc..... and believe me I am overwhelmed with that process.........

But, the mind and heart part of this journey so far has thrown me for a loop! I am on the verge of tears multiple times each day.. and I can't really put into words why!!!!!!!

But it is freakin me out!!!

Anyone out there able to shed any light on this ?? Is it just me?? Am I crazy? (crazier than I thought?)

Tracy :)

Emotional lability is really common postoperatively-- no matter what the surgery. Anesthesia and meds wreak havoc on the body and mind.

Add in to that a restricted diet, grief for our old "friend," food, and you do have the recipe for teariness.

As you start feeling better physically, the mood swings will taper off. It also gets better as you're able to advance your diet.

I think I cried at the drop of a hat the first few weeks. I chalked it all up to the big life style change that I just made. I would go from excitement, to disgust (at myself for getting to how fat I was), to being afraid that I would fail, to sadness. That was all in the space of 10 minutes.

Although overall happy with my decision, I am having a bit of an emotional "funk".

Today, I realized that my "funk" is probably because I currently cannot do the 3 things I get the most enjoyment from in life: 1) spend time with my husband (he is also a grad student and super busy), 2) eat (still on liquids), and 3) shop (looking for a job, money is tight).

So yes, I'm feeling deprived, and the weather around here doesn't help, either!

So, now that I've identified that, I think it will get better.

Hi! I think it's normal to be having big feelings at this stage (or any stage!) of the game. You just committed to a huge change and are just getting used to it. Don't worry -- figuring out what and how to eat isn't that hard, and you'll have the hang of it before you know it.

To find out about the emotional stuff, I'd recommend checking out other bandsters' blogs. There is a link to mine below, and I have links to a bunch of my favorite ones posted on the right margin. That was a huge help for me, and it might be for you, too! :)

Also, I wanted to say to take your measurements and a bunch of before photos if you haven't already -- you will definitely want them later!

Best wishes,

Catherine

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
