I'm Mallory, I have been banded for 6 months and doing great :thumbup:

Before my surgery the surgeon told me he wanted me to wait at least a year after surgery to get pregnant. Not only because of recovery, but to lose as much weight as possible.

My husband and I have always intended to TTC when our daughter turned 2. She turns 2 in January, my bandiversary is in March...

When I talked to the surgeon today he told me he'd like me to wait ANOTHER year before getting pregnant. And that once I do get pregnant it is VERY important that I NEVER vomit.

He then said something (don't remember wording) that led me to believe that I would be his first patient to get pregnant after being banded.

-How long were you told to wait after surgery?

-How did your surgeon approach the nausea issue?

-Should I be nervous being his 1st pregnant patient?

I paid for my op, and after it was done, that was my discharged so i have never seen surgeon again.

As it happend I fell pregnant 3 months after getting banded. My pregnancy consultant had never had a kpatient with a band in, so i was teaching her, lol. The only concern she had was i was gettin enough Vitamins, so had to take a supplement.

I was never actually sick, just had retching and had no problems throughout my whole pregnancy.

Thanks for the info - I'm curious, do you have someone to do fills for you if you're not going to your surgeon?

The place that did my band have clinic's that a nurse does fills.

I had one fill done before i fell pregnant. And that was left in, with no problems.

Here's the thing. Most doctors want you to wait a year so you've had a chance to lose weight, and hopefully get to a healthy pregnancy weight, and also to establish new habits. The healthier YOU are, the healthier your pregnancy and baby are.

With that said....I got pregnant before I was a year out. I was banded in June, was pregnant end of April/beginning of May. Not too far from the one year mark. By then I had lost all my weight and gotten to where my doctor wanted me to be. I had no idea I was pregnant until I was in the second trimester.

Meanwhile, I did have some slight morning sickness. I thought it was just a stomach bug and my regular PCM gave me Phenergan for it so I wouldn't vomit and risk slippage of my band. Then my band tightened!! That was NOT comfy at all. I really had no idea what was going on but I was going to stick it out until I had my next appt with my surgeon. Well, my period went on hiatus and all I could think was if my pcos is back after I have lost all this weight I'm going to lose it. So I took a home pregnancy test so I could tell my PCM I had and it was negative....well....it was positive. I did have to have 1.5 cc's taken out of my band so I could eat properly. From the end May, until July 19th, I had lost more than 12 pounds because my band had tightened up so much I could hardly eat anything. I wasn't getting sick, but I wasn't eating much at all.

That was alarming for my doctor, so he had me down immediately to do the unfill. Since then it has been smooth sailing! I am now 22 weeks and everything is going well.

The only advice I could offer is just to make sure you have your new habits established first.

My doctor prefers for you to wait TWO years.

Howeever, as of right now I am DONE having childern. I have one and thats enough..
