    One year anniversary!

I was banded a year ago March 23rd and I am down 112 pounds! (From 264 to 152.) I have gone from a size 18/20 to a size 8! I crave and want food normally, but am full much quicker. My restriction seems to go from not enough to too much from day-to-day. It is still a learning process as to how to eat successfully every time. Every time I think I want to call and get an unfill because I can hardly eat, I have a day where I feel like a bottomless pit. Also, I am now 10 weeks pregnant with baby #2!!!
  2. I'm Mallory, I have been banded for 6 months and doing great  Before my surgery the surgeon told me he wanted me to wait at least a year after surgery to get pregnant. Not only because of recovery, but to lose as much weight as possible. My husband and I have always intended to TTC when our daughter turned 2. She turns 2 in January, my bandiversary is in March... When I talked to the surgeon today he told me he'd like me to wait ANOTHER year before getting pregnant. And that once I do get pregnant it is VERY important that I NEVER vomit. He then said something (don't remember wording) that led me to believe that I would be his first patient to get pregnant after being banded. -How long were you told to wait after surgery? -How did your surgeon approach the nausea issue? -Should I be nervous being his 1st pregnant patient? Thanks in advance for any and all advice/information about this!
  3. Thanks for the info - I'm curious, do you have someone to do fills for you if you're not going to your surgeon?

    Do you honestly ?????

No, you're not the only one who has felt this way. My last fill was a little iffy. I was certain when I first got it that I needed to get some taken out - It hurt to drink Water. When I realized I just had swelling from the fill I waited it out. As the month went by I was losing a ton of weight and not getting hungry until the afternoon. It was great. I was afraid that they would decide I had lost too much weight and want to back me off. But what I've learned over the past month is that the band isn't too tight, I just need to get used to having proper restriction (chewing a ton, eating slowly, etc.) It does sound like you did the right thing, good luck!

    Problem , port, advice

First, don't get discouraged by your weight loss. Normal rate of weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week - and it's totally common to not lose any weight until you start getting fills. And even after the fills, you may only lose 2 pounds or so a week. As far as how your surgery went, I too had respiratory complications post surgery. They couldn't keep my 02 sats up, I had to do nebulizer treatments and oxygen at 10 pounds of pressure. However, I suspect that your extended issues were absolutely caused by you not telling your surgeon about your health prior to surgery. Any Fluid in the lungs from your respiratory infection could lead to complications post op. I'm sorry your fill attempt didn't go well. I feel as though 4 weeks after surgery is a little soon. At 8 weeks post op my port 'area' was still sore. As long as you were cleared for walking - I don't think you could've caused the issue. I think you just need a little more time to heal. Good luck!
