Food stuck EARLY - 2.5 weeks post-op....?

I did a very bad thing. I am 18 days post-op (about 2.5 weeks since my surgery) and I am supposed to be in the pureed food/mushy stage.

Last night was my late father's birthday, so we had a cake in his honour. I stayed away from it, but then I got distracted and ended up eating 8 bites....and it got stuck! It was a horrible feeling, like I couldn't breathe.

Reading other threads in this forum, I understand that it's my fault for not following the post-op diet, will power, etc. I'm not sure if the food has passed though, and if it's possible that I've damaged the pouch in any way. I did not vomit or PB, I walked around and drank some pineapple juice. This morning, I drank some Soup and more pineapple juice. liquids are going down okay, but I feel tenderness from my throat to my chest area. I am not in pain, and I don't see my doctor again for another few weeks. Not sure if this is worth going to the hospital for?

The tenderness could be caused by irritation so if you can stay on liquids for a day and see if you feel better tomorrow.

You are not alone here. There are many people like you and "me" who failed to complete the pureed food phase. Some of us have the greatest will power and they can and some can not. Its not so easy to damage your pouch or your stomach after 18 days. Just go easy for few days. I did the same thing, I was scared it slipped, called my surgeon and he laughed. He let me watch a youtube video to see how he stitched part of my stomach around the band. He said take it easy to yourself. as long as you do not vomit "immediately after even drinking a water" your band is not slipped.

Thank you Zeniada and Kerimhann!

I'm feeling better now, both physically and mentally.

Lesson learnt now. Don`t beat yourself too much, just pick yourself up and move on. You have to keep to liquids for a day or two to rest your pouch. The tenderness will settle soon. Good luck for the rest of your journey.

Thanks KCG, I'm definitely going to think now before I put anything into my mouth! And I've only been drinking liquids today...scared to even eat pureed right now. Maybe in a couple of days.
