Kerry: Thanks for the reply, The fog has finally lifted and I can think clearly again. Even with out the pain drugs it took two days to clear my head. My emails were a blurr,.,.

You said "Diet coke" my doc said No Diet Cokes they will cause gas ???? I was addicted to diet coke before the suregery then I stopped all carbinated drinks for 3 weeks before surgery. A fountain drink sounds so good right now but I am afraid of the gas pain. I was one of the lucky ones with no gas pain. I had cream of wheat this morning with my Protein Drink, and juicey juice to drink this afternoon. I am down to 270 today from surgery 275.5. I had my bm on the 4th day after surgery pretty soft when the erge hit go don't wait. lol I feel like everything is going to be alright, I had second thoughts on the 3rd day "Like what was I thinking" I am almost 60 and teaching an old dog new tricks is really hard. But I was still in the fog and know I can think straight I know it was the best thing I have done for me. I will be healthy and get to do more things in the years to come. I have always wanted to go to Australia. You are so lucky to live there. I live in Arkansas we are going into fall and winter, alittle snow and fire in the fireplace. Well take care, Hope to talk again

I'm BANDED!!!! Got the center @ 6:30 and was back home at 12:07. Feeling pretty good right now. No real pain, more of an annoyance. Sipping away on some broth and walking around the house a bunch. I even gave myself a shot. Not bad at all. Have to do that for 4 more days. The worst part is cotton mouth. When will that subside???

Hoping everyone else is doing well who was banded today.

Hi Cherie, by 'diet soft drink' I mean low calorie dry ginger, and I have been letting it go almost flat, before drinking it. I just like the taste, but the bubbles would probably cause problems if drunk as soon as the bottle was opened.... :-)

Well my surgery went well! I am now 2 weeks post op. Ive lost and then gained and then lost and then gained. I now had my daughter hide the scale and told her she was not allowed to tell me where for at least a week. I have struggled some, have had awful pain-mostly because i didnt "want" to have to take pains meds- stupid...[please take ur meds!]

Through it all, I have no regrets! Im ready to get the show on the road!

Good luck to those of you still waiting for your surgeries this month! You will do amazing! The surgery is a breeze! And all the liquids will be worth it in the end!!!!

Here I am at day 2 and feeling pretty good. The pain is a bit more than yesterday, but not horribly unbearable. Took pain meds last night before bed and I think they helped me sleep fairly well. I slept in the recliner with a pillow over my tummy. Have been sipping away on my liquids, mostly Water w/ crystal light, Protein Shakes and broth. Some plain water for good measure. Just woke up from a little nap which was rather refreshing.

Thinking of all of you who were banded yesterday and for those yet to come. The ones who came before were so helpful and certainly calmed some fears.

Hope everyone is doing well. Peace!

Nina

COTTON MOUTH will go away when drugs go away, it is a side effect from them, apple juice seems to help wake up the taste buds, the three day was my hardest I took pain meds that day every 4 hours then it was over gas x every 6 hours tables, now I am almost a week out wednesday The brain fog has lifted and I feel fine great. I am listening to my stomach when it says it's full I stop, I save all my Jello and puddening containers for creamed Soups so I know just how much I am eating each time I don't drink with a meal at least 30 minutes before or after. Other wise I have a drink at my side at all times to sip. My food taste are totally changed things I would never eat taste pretty good. Like refried Beans+ Salsa+ Sour Cream warmed up put in my small container small bites enjoying every bite.

I hope everyone is hanging in there each day will get better then the last, It like that song on Annie "The sun will come out tomorrow tomorrow," love to all, bless you all, cherie

I am sorry that you gained, lost, gained, lost but it did make me feel better. I gained on the pre op diet! I had not been eating that many calories for about 3 weeks, so I had lost about 10 lbs.. And then....gained it back, then 2 more. Mad? Yep! I was. One week and one day out from surgery and I have lost 20 lbs.! Whoohoo!!!:P

Do take your pain meds. I find that if I do a lot during the day, I still need it at bedtime.

Take care and when you "find" your scales, I hope the number has dropped dramatically!

Blessings,

PitPat

Do be sensible and take your pain meds, as they help keep you mobile, which speeds recovery

Hi. Writing frm my hospital bed. Had surgery almost twelve hours ago and haven't needed pain relief at all. Not allowed even a sip of Water. Just have to sponge a bit around mouth. But hey all good. Get X-ray tomorrow and drain removed and go back to hotel. X good luck those tomorrow.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
