Anything besides milk of magnesia?

Recommended Posts

My doctor told me that if I don't have a bm by Saturday to take 2 ounces of milk of magnesia. Well, I tried it and it is so so so gross, I really think I might puke. If I could just chug it and get it over with I might be able to do it, but no of course I have to sip it, 2 ounces would take 40 minutes.

Is there something else I can take? Is there flavored milk of magnesia? How important is it that I have a bm now, I don't feel constipated?

I drank a bottle of calcium citrate before my surgery. It has a lemon flavor. You can get it neat the laxatives in any major grocery or RX chain. It was not terrible. It does have some bubbles in it so it may not be easy to drink but it sure does the trick and tastes decent.

i found a cherry flavor at my local store, not that bad, but i drink Water after it, the chalky taste hit after i got it down, but its not to bad, or you can do an emina ( i think that is worst) good luck and feel better!!

You can also do a dulcolax suppository. No fun, but at least you don't have to taste it! Lol. Sorry... Are you passing gas okay? That is a good sign if you are. If it has been 3 to 5 days since your last BM then give something a try. There are also the dissolving Fiber powders to add to Water or juices that can help.

Happy pooping! :)

Happy pooping! :)

Haha, thanks.

Like I said, I don't feel uncomfortable at all, and I am passing gas so I'm not concerned. I only was taking it because my doc told me to. I sent dh to the store for a laxative tea I knew we had (I work at CVS and had seen it before). I am going to try that, it says it works overnight so I will see what happens tomorrow.

I have been using unflavored Benefiber powder. You an add it to anything including Water with out thickening. It has really helped to keep me regular. I find gassiness is not really a sign of a BM. The Protein Powder/Ready to drink (esp. protein shots) make me uber gassy.

Ok, I got the tea, and when I only was halfway through the cup, it worked. Of course that cup took me over an hour to drink, lol.

I, too, have been having a real issue with Constipation or when I do finally go it is so hard it hurts (sorry...gross). I was afraid that all of that straining could lead to "roids" (ick). So, I have been taking a stool softener every night before going to bed for the past 2 weeks. It has made a huge difference! If you are going to try this approach, be sure to take a stool softener, not a stimulant laxative.

Sweetbean...hard stool means you're not getting enough Water. Stool softener doens't work for me, but Miralax is a wonderful thing, blends with no taste.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
