Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Gained 40lbs in 8 months

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was banded in Jan 19th, 2009. I was doing really good and lost 71lbs by my bandiversary, but I got sick. The weight lifting and exercising i was doing tightened my band by itself to the point I couldn't even get liquids down. In Jan this year my dr. unfilled my band so that we could start readjusting it.

My life got complicated and I never went back in for the readjustment in Feb. I had noticed that some of my weight has came back on, so I made an appt to see my dr asap. I went Thursday 08/12/10 to get my fill. I found out i had put back on 41lbs of the 70 that i lost. I don't know how I let myself go backwards so much. Right now my dr has my band tightened so i can only get down my shakes, but I am already feeling like hope is lost.

Has anyone gone through this?

I haven't gone through this (just got banded in May), but I do have a friend who had her band emptied and gained a significant amount of weight. She had no restriction and had no idea she'd done it.

Since then, she's had her band replaced and refilled (slowly) and the weight is coming off all over again. Just hang in there and take it one day at a time. You can do this!

I was coming on here tonight to ask questions as well to seek help. I was banded July 2008. I lost 68 lbs and was at the point where I was losing only one to two lbs every month when I went for my weigh in. I was not filled to capacity but to the point (I believe at 7)and was having episodes of vomiting too much so asked to have some of the fill removed. I think she took too much out(the nurse) because after that, I was able to eat almost anything (I still cannot eat steak, rice, Pasta or scrambled eggs). Upon returning to see her in 3 months, I had only lost about 4 lbs and she began giving me a stern talking to...even suggesting that I see a counselor inreference to why I eat the way I do...well that isn't hard to answer, I like food and although I am trying to not eat so much and trying to eat the right types of food, it isn't coming off as quickly as she wants. I failed to mention that I had a medical problem during all this that prevented me from exercising for a lot of the time after the surgery and was in a wheelchair for a long time. I feel that exercise is a big part of the weight loss as well. She made me so angry that I quit going to see any of the nurses. I am almost 66 years old and felt that I didn't need to be spoken to in that manner by an overweight nurse. She was rude and insensitive to say the least. I now realize that there was more to it than just her, there were other things bothering me. I feel much better emotionally but not physically because I have gained some of my weight back. I am afraid to go back because I don't know if I will need to have the band removed or what. It has been since February this year since I have been to weigh in. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
