Are any of you cold a lot??

Recommended Posts

This will be my 2nd winter with the band. The temps here are already dropping and we have already had snow twice. I'm freezing just like I did last year. I had hopes it would get better, but has not yet. I have no thyroid problems that I know of. It's just the weightloss.

While hypothyroidism can cause coldness, for most of us, it's the result of losing lots of insulation.

My thyroid is a-okay, but I almost always wear Under Armour and wool socks these days. My ample blanket of fatty insulation is almost gone, and it's totally changed my personal climate.

My thyroid is a-okay, but I almost always wear Under Armour and wool socks these days. My ample blanket of fatty insulation is almost gone, and it's totally changed my personal climate.

My eyes are going weird on me. I read Under Armour as "I almost always Up my Armour" as in up my Armour (brand) thyroid medicine to feel warmer. DOH!

Back when my thyroid troubles first began, I was always freezing, even with my layer of insulation. I was on thyroid meds to suppress my thyroid from working. Levels were normal. At my highest weight I was cold. DH and I had arguments about the temperature in the car. I'd be bundled up as much as I could be (sweatshirts, jackets, and sometimes gloves), he'd be in shorts and t-shirts. I'd be freezing and he'd be warm. It was an argument with no resolution.

After I had the radiation treatment to kill off my thyriod and was put on replacement doses, I was nice and toasty warm. Then since the weight loss, my thyroid levels dropped (not sure there is a weight-loss correlation to the drop in hormone level), and I was cold again. We upped the dosage, but I am still cold! This leads my endocrinologist to believe it is the weight loss causing the cold intolerance.

So cold that I'm looking forward to the hot flashes that will come with menopause!

So cold that I'm looking forward to the hot flashes that will come with menopause!

Then you are either burning up or freezing. There is no happy medium. Thank goodness my menopause symptoms are about all done. (surgical menopause)

Now I just have to deal with the freezing. We had more snow this morning and of course I needed to pump gas...Brrrrrrr

Wuggum, that is so funny, even when I was my heaviest at 235 pds, it did not take much to give me a chill. I have always ran cold and I wished for the day of hot flashes too! When it did happen, quite early in life I must say at age 39, it did not solve the problem, the hot flashes make you sweat and you are even colder afterwards than normal. I am learning to dress in layers, even though we do not get snow here, it does get cold enough to bundle up, nice to know I am not alone on this journey either, thanks girls.

Yes!! I thought I was the only one freezing. I am also assuming it is due to weight loss. 18 pounds may not sound like a lot but how many sacks of potatoes does that make? It really it is a bit of weight.

I am freezing as I read this.

I've been cold everyday. I work in a room with four cubicles. We have our own thermostat, I'm always making it warmer. The other girls are always hot, one even keeps a fan running at her desk at alllllllll times!

I find myself drinking more hot tea to keep warm and taking extra walks in the building to warm up!

I used to always be hot. I've been know to hang out side while it was snowing wearing tennis shoes, jeans, and a t-shirt ONLY! Now I'm a popsicle. I guess a 50 lbs weight loss will do that too you? It's 74 degrees in my apartment right now and I'm bundled up in a fleece blanket, trying to get warm.

I feel the same though!

I get colder so much easier now! It's great though. Summers coming up here and I'd rather be cold than hot and sweaty.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
