Hi Brian-LA.

I got most of the stuff for my post op period but I did not get any GAS-X yet. How important is the GAS-X right after I have surgery? It's raining out right now and I don't feel like going out.

I just found out that I have to report to the hospital tomorrow at 10am. I'll probably leave my house around 8am because going to Manhattan during this time will put me into rush hour (nothing like NYC rush hour traffic to add time to your commute). The hospital I choose is NYU in NYC and I live 1 hour away in the burbs (during normal commuting time with normal traffic).

They won't even tell me my surgery time - just said it is usually 1.5 hours after the time I am told to report. He said it depends how long the earlier case takes, so figure I'll be "under the knife" around 11:30am. Sounds like I'm the 2nd case. Yikes.

Hey NYSLegend78.

I LOVE Greek yogurts. They are so much more yummy than the regular ones. Glad we can still eat them after our surgery!

I'm back home from the hospital today (stayed overnight) and doing ok. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The worst of it has definitely been the gas pains in my shoulder/chest. Walking around seems to help. I'm running a very low-grade temp, but I still feel pretty decent.

I did make the mistake of getting on my scale when I got home and I had gained 2.2 lbs in the hospital. I know they pump you full of fluids and I'm hoping that was the cause. I didn't really consume much while I was there. Did this happen to anyone else?

September 1st  was my date , ive lost 16 lbs and ive gained a pound  kinda frustrated at this point hoping first fill will make the difference that will be october 6th . I wish you all luck the surgery wasnt bad just remember to walk as soon as you can and as much as you can . Looking forward to making new friends on this new journey .:smile2:

Melonie, I'm Happy things went well for you. Thanks for the infor about the walking.

Hi all, hard to believe most of us have already been banded. About pureed Soups, I googled lowfat pureed soups and found how easy it is to make your own. A great one is butternut squash Soup. In a pot put 4 cups peeled cubed squash, 1 small chopped onion, 1 peeled cubed med potatoe, in pam or a tiny bit of oil saute to bring out flavors then add 2 cups chicken broth and simmer until soft season w/salt pepper a little nutmeg and puree . yummo!

Playermimi; It's good to see so many trying to live a more health life. As of today at 9:20 am today there is 71 of us that as been banded. :w00t::thumbup:

I love Butter Nut Squash Soup thanks for the recipe.

Hi Everyone!

I recently found this website and just today found your page. I am so excited to have found all of you. I have been reading all the posts and it is incredible to see how the posts start with the anticipating the approval, to setting a date and in some cases the post op.

I started my journey a couple of months ago and got insurance approval on August 19th. They set my date for Sept 23rd and on Sept 7th they changed it to Sept 20th. So I have been on the pre-op diet since the 8th and have lost 9 lbs. Today my Doctor told me that I have to be on a 3 day Protein diet starting tomorrow until Sunday. Then Monday is the day! I can't believe how fast all this has happened and am ready for my life change.

As soon as I am able, I will let you guys know how the operation went and how I am doing.

Thanks,

Moni

Moni Welcome to our group.

Best wish to all that will be having surgery on 9/17/2010

Hi Maxi2010 !

I found Gas X strips had marginal effectiveness for me. A lot of people sore by them though. Personally I thought walking did a better job of helping ease / get out the gas myself. In other words I would NOT kill myself to get them ... it aint that big of a deal. You also have a great surgeon so I hopefully you only have minor issues.

GOOD LUCK TOMORROW I ll be thinking of you and wishing you a fast and full recovery !!!

OMIGOSH! So Glad to hear your problem has been relieved. On day two post op I was ready to give up my kitties and check into a convalescent home as the pain was so bad, but I woke up Wed and it felt better, and today better still. The pain meds only takes the edge off my pain (it could be worse). Kitties are still with me too. Had my first TOOT last night and my first BM tonight.

So now you can enjoy your consomme, beef broth, grape juice and other Clear Liquids, and sugar free Jello, which aren't bad at all. I finally could stand up long enough to make jello and gonna eat it inna few, but my main task for this evening is to try and take a shower. Wish me luck.

Desiree1972 get back with us tomorrow and let us know how you are doing, I am so glad I found this board. Only one person knows about my procedure, so it's difficult not talking with people in "the know." I can't wait to hear if you are getting your fluids and getting about better tomorrow.

Hi all,

Just got back from my surgery, everything that everyone has been saying is true. The worst is the gas pain feeling which for me radiates up to my left shoulder, i don't think the Gas x would have helped for this. I had really good care, but did have the " what have i done" moment post op. The worst for me was/is getting in and out of bed... i dread it, although it gets better every day. Plus i have had sudden diarrhea - great- because i had a 5 hour flight yesterday, luckily for all concerned there were no incidents! Very tired though, glad i'm not back to work til Monday. If there are any Canucks out there that have to wait 2-4 years for surgery, Mexico is a good option.

I appreciate all the stories that i poured over before my surgery, i had no surprises!

Thank you all and good luck on your journey!!

It was the same for me, gas pain in my left side and really bad in my left shoulder. Whenever the nurse came around to take me for a walk it was awful. But I learned to get out on the right side of the bed, but get in on the left side, which made it better. I don't have diarrhea, but had my first teensy BM tonight. It's a start. Take it easy now for the next few days and recover. I was able to walk to the mailbox 2x time and gonna try the shower. You must have an Iron constitution to be able to go back to work so soon. I have a stressful job that alot of the time I am there by myself Sat and Sun, and it just would not work if I wasn't feeling good. Keep in touch. You go girl!

Hey Brian-- I noticed that V-8 has a section of cream Soups in my Walmart grocery section, and we also have Pacific brand organic cream soups. It looks like they have lots of variety-- a brocolli cream Soup, butternut squash soup (yum). Here is the link to Pacific's website to see what they look like: Pacific Natural Foods , and here is the V8 website: V8 Soups - Healthy V8 Soup Home Page.

Any soup you can run through a blender or food processor to take out "chewable" chunks would probably work-- potato and "chowder" type soups would puree really well I bet.

Pacific brand soups are wonderful! Try them

I haven't had surgery yet, but my sons grandmother did and she gained 14 POUNDS with gastric by-pass in the hospital 3 days! So don't fret it's not new fat just fluids!

Hello all,

I had my last nutrition consult today, I was the only one there! It was suppose to be a classroom atmosphere, but I guess Rhode Island Hospital is low on patients next week! Anyway I learned alot with the consult. I got the answer to the question I'd been waiting to ask, "why is there no preop diet for me, the majority of people are on one" Answer, "we don't feel that it's all that important, if you were able to lose weight on your own, then you wouldn't be here, it's crazy to ask people to go on a 2 week regimen of just fluids when they have a stomach the size of a football." Well that's all well and good, but after the "class" I was weighed, and unfortunately, I gained another 5lbs since August 30th:( So, although your preop diets suck, I think you guys are all the better because of it. I think subconciously, I'd been eating more because I knew I wouldn't be able to soon.

I was weighed in on a different scale than on August 30th, but let's face it, it couldn't have been off 5.5 lbs! So, to all you 2 week preop dieters, "Cheers to you", good job!

Yea I looked for all less sodium Soups, but you know, I did not check the Campbells Cream of Potato and Tomato for sodium, and I am so looking forward to trying them. I had high blood pressue in the hospital but they were able to get it down some (with the proper cuff). Thanks for the heads up, I will start checking sodium levels in my pureed foods next week when I start on them.

Cream of Tomato is 480 grams of sodium, not the best, but not too bad, I'm just sooo concerned with sodium as I have high blood pressure!

I also went through RI Hospital- who is your surgeon? Dr. Roye performed my Realize band surgery. Just to let you know, the nurses were absolutely fantastic at the hospital. Each one was better than the last. They were all so positive and helpful.

I also wasn't required to go on the pre-op diet, but I went on full liquids for 10 days just because I thought it would help.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
