So I have just finished everything needed for pre-op and I am just having this crazy revelation .. So you hear over and over the band is just a tool, it will cut your appetite and make you feel less hungry and stay full longer. Great ! However.. I know many oveweight people including myself who didn't get obese because they are constantly hurgry. The bottom line .. fat people arn't fat because they are hungry. 9 times out of 10 they have a million other reasons to eat but hunger isn't up there on the list. So I guess I am worried how is that band gonna stop me besides make me sick.. and maybe thats the idea?

I completely understand where you are coming from. I think it's a tool because you have to retrain yourself to do something else besides eat. If you are stressed, take a walk, chat online, read a book, ride a bike, go to the gym, spend time with friends...anything to replace going to the refrigerator and getting a snack. I think that's why the weight comes off slower, you have to do the work to see results. For many of us, we can lose some weight, but it's hard to keep it off. When I have lost 50 or 60 lbs in the past, I thought I was skinny and could just eat what everyone else was eating again. Wrong! Funny how we can work so hard to get it off and say it will never happen again, and then it does! I feel that surgery is what will help me not repeat those behaviors that got me to where I am today.

I have been banded for about 4 months and including my preop I have lost 58 pounds.

I ate for all the wrong reasons and thought I was an emotional eater. Every emotion made me want to eat - anger, hurt, depression, happiness, fear, anxiety, etc. I thought a bout food all the time, even after I just ate a full meal.

Well, I am here to say that the band has reduced my hunger and it has made a difference in my obsessing over food. I still have to eat the right things and not let myself go wild, especially when I am depressed or angry or hurt or bored, etc. But the difference in my actual hunger is amazing. I can go for hours without thinking about food. That never happened before the band.

The band doesn't just prevent me from eating too much, it actually reduces my desire for food and then I can control my emotional hunger. I can't explain it, but it is different.

I agree with several comments above.

Like you say, I wasnt fat because I was constantly hungry and I cant really identify with being starving 2 hours after eating a large meal. I just plain overate. The quantities I ate werent startling, they were like what most other people put away but I would then go and eat chocolate, or biscuits an hour after a meal, just because.

I ate from boredom and I know I eat to relieve stress.

But like Froggie said above, its amazing how once you're very UNhungry its amazing how that sort of behaviour declines. The band makes me feel like I always just ate a large meal and am very much not hungry yet.

But I do still eat for unhungry reasons and have to constantly work on that. There IS willpower involved. However, when you do break out, you dont do that much damage either.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
