Can overeating once stretch my pouch?

Recommended Posts

I had a BAD day today and, like so many times in the past, turned to food. I know, I know, I have issues to deal with. But this is my first time really overeating.

Since my surgery over 3 weeks ago I have found that I am one of the ones that can eat pretty much anything; no puking, sliming, or getting stuck. I have no restriction yet. I have lost weight and try to keep to a healthy diet and keep portions small.

Today, however, I threw caution to the wind and ate my biggest meal since surgery. I was terribly full and uncomfortable for 2 hours. I still ate only 1/2 what I would have eaten pre surgery, but now I am scared.

Did I do permenate damage to my pouch??? Could this make my band slip? Did I stretch it out so much that it wont work now??? So worried, HELP

Non-professional opinion here but no, you PROBABLY didn't stretch it, make it slip, or do any permanent damage. HOWEVER...consider the miserable feeling your warning. If you continue to overeat and eat things you are not supposed to then yes, you very well may cause some damage. We all (well most of us) cheat a little now and then but even with the band in place you still have to exercise some self control...the band just makes it easier.

Get up tomorrow, dust yourself off, and do better next time...and be very, very careful.

Good luck!

If you have not had a fill yet then once your swelling goes done you probably would'nt get stuck. food is sliding from the small stomach to the larger one. The concern that I would have is are you following the doctors rules for progressing from liquids to solids. I am preband but I think my doctor would only have someone on mushies 3 weeks out. Did you eat lots of mushies or have regular solid foods?

Hey Honk, my doc had me progress to regular food after 7 days of liquids. I did 7 days full liquids, 3 days mushies, then everyday after that added more and more regular food. I am on a normal diet now and have been for over a week. Every doc is different, but I did follow his orders.

I do also follow his diet plan but had a slip up today.

The only thing you truly hurt today is your pride, but you do want to keep days like this to a minimum.

Once you start getting restriction from fills you'll need to pay particular attention to avoid overeating. Repeatedly pushing the envelope while restricted will cause your pouch to stretch.

Good luck,

Brad

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
