I find it so odd that there are so many schools of thought on the whole eating thing. My doctor doesn't have me scheduled for any type of solid food for almost 3 weeks. I've got day 1-4 clear liquids; 5-7 full liquids; blended foods 1 week after surgery; and soft foods 2-4 weeks after surgery. It's like what is the best...are they making it up as they go along... is there no standardization for this process??? Everyone is so different..

Im on day 2 and I cant even drink 4 oz of anything. It feels like my stomach will pop if I do. I have the pain in my chest as well as my shoulder, but I still try too move around to get the gas moving. Oh well I hope everyone bounce back soon:)

Day two was the worst for me, I will not be surprised if you feel much better tomorrow!!

I am on the Same Diet that you are on. I had mine done on July 6th and I am just now starting to work in an egg or cottage cheese slowly as the doctor said that I was able to replace one liquid with one or the either. I am sticking to what they told me, as it seems like the ones that jump the gun are having the problems with digestion or throwing up. I received a really good outline of how my days are supposed to go and what foods are best during the stages. So I am right there with you.

I agree, I don't know why there are so many different methods. I found the same thing to be true for the preop diet. I would just follow YOUR doctor's advice since they are the one who knows your specific case. Good Luck!!!!

I had my surgery last Thurs July 8, Thank God I didn't have any gas pain. I hope you feel better soon.

As far as the post op diet goes I also wonder why doctors say different things. I am on a week 1 & 2 liquids, week 3 & 4 mushies, and week 5 start trying diff food to see what I am ok with. I wish I was on mushies already. I am so tired of the shakes, juice, broth, Jello etc.

The ones that are on mushies what is it you all eat?

I was told that the sooner you start to feel hungry post-op, the less swollen you are, and that means you're healing. Some go faster than others. This is a good thing from what I understand, but it is frustrating! It will get better!

CO2 is used to inflate your abdomen and give the surgeon a clear view and field to work. After the banding, etc. they let as much of the gas back out of your body, but some always seems to remain. CO2 is a gas and when you sit upright or stand, gas rises. What your body hasn't absorbed or passed is "stuck" under your shoulders, sort of like a balloon rising up to the ceiling in your house.

Hope I explained it for you. Hope you feel better soon!

I was banded on Monday...by day 3 I was starving growling stomach dizzy and shaking I called the doctor but they never called me back so my husband went and got me something mushy so that he wouldn't have to take me to the ER for passing out. I am doing the Protein Shakes, Jello, broth and Water and all my vitimins. I also started to notice that my hair is slowly falling out. I don't have any regrets but I feel a little lost on what is going on with my diet.

I can't wait to see the doctor Tuesday to get some answers.

When I went to my post-op appointment I mentioned that my nails were breaking, one or two every day, and asked if it may have something to do with the diet. My nutritionist said that it may be that my body was using the Protein I was getting to heal post surgery. She suggested I up my protein, and told me to try out Premier Protein Shakes from costco, which are 30g's of protein each. Maybe that's what you need. I was allowed to eat mashed potatoes that were thinned out, as well as Soup as long as there wasn't anything big in it. I bought Lipton's cream of chicken, which has no real chicken in it, but it still calmed my belly when I felt like I was starving. I hope this helps!

Banded on the 15th of July now 3 days, I have been very surprised at the variances in diet that each Doc has. Mine has a program that I am on liquids for 2 weeks before any mushies even then nothing like real food till week 5. I am sick of broth and Jello already and am NOT looking forward to the next month.

is this the "hell" part or is it worse trying to get your fill just right? I dropped 20 lbs pre-op and dont want to gain even a lb back. I think I am in for some hungry days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
