Recommended Posts

I'm getting banded July 26th in NYU.

would be interesting to share experience.

Were you also put on a two week liquid diet?

Exited? Nervous?

I think I'm starting to get exited. I went today tpo eat out with DH. I didnt even enjoy eating, I'm so ready for this.

I actually wanted to start liquid diet at least one week before requiered, but DH didnt let. He said it will be hard enough the mandatory 2 week liquid diet. maybe he's right...

I hope I'll do well. I'm soooo ready to give it my ALL, and looooose!

Good luck to you.

I am getting banded on July 26 at NYU too!! Just started the liquid diet today and all of a sudden I feel nervous... excited - but nervous. I guess through the process of getting approved, I sort of lost touch with reality - and bam, here it is. Who is doing your surgery?

I'm being banded by your surgeons wife,

Dr. Christine Ren Fielding.

I too feel nervous. It was always so far, now its getting close. You said it so good, lost touch with reality. Thats really how it is for me. It's getting blurry, just my nervousness is being clear and my worries too. (I'm still a little exited)

I started my liquid diet today. The Protein Shakes are terrible.

I'M actually closing my tastebudd when I drink it, and dont breath till I gulped it all down. It's reallly hard.

Howzit going for u? Which shake did you buy?

When are you being banded? morning?

Yes - in the am. I go Monday for the pre-op at noon. 7/19

I am drinking the muscle milk light vanilla shake - it actually is not bad...but I am a little delusion from lack of calories at this point today!!! I know each day gets easier - but today has been ROUGH. I keep reminding myself of all the reasons... there are so many reasons.... focus....ahgdhl;fkadjs;fkdjas;fkajsd;f :grouphug:

I was there actually today for all my preop testing, it took aprox. 3 hrs. It made it more realistic, being there in NYU, all the testing, meeting the anasticiologist etc.

Today I had a really bad "diet day", I hope tommorow goes better. The shake that i had was the grossest thing I ever had in my life. I only had two, almost couldnt swallow it,brrrrrr.....:grouphug:

What did you eat today? Do u mind sharing? How long r u staying in the hospital? You'r having the SILS? or 5 incisions?

I had 4 shakes, a cup of sugar free Jello, 2 cups of lettuce with vinegar on it and a cup of chicken broth - oh and 3 cups of black coffee :grouphug: I have no idea how I made it through the day.

I have two kids so I want to go home the same day - plus I live about an hour away so it is a pain. I haven't been asked about the incisions???? What is the choice?

I am freaking out right now because I just got over a sinus infection and I am coughing all night long - and I wonder how I will do with the anaethesia.... arghghggh

We can always find something to scare us right??

wow molly, you did great yesterday.

I hope I'm gonna do good too today. wish me luck!

I too have two kids and thats why i need to go home on the same day. I requested morning surgery. I hope I'm gonna get it.

My kids are still young, I need to be with them. I am still slightly nursing my baby.

About your sinus infection, 2 weeks is a nice amount of time to get over it. You'll be fine. Send a prayer up to heaven and you'll be fine. Yeah, always something that scares us. We'r not allowed to let it!

Skinnyland we'r coming. I cant wait... I catch myself dreaming sometimes..what I'm gonna wear when i'm skinny...how I'm gonna look.. and of course it's gonna b a nice surprise for DH.

I was banded July 7th.

I was on full liquids for 4 days, Clear Liquids the day before surgery.

And now on clear liquids for the 9 days between surgery and seeing my dr again.

My dr said specifically no Jello during this time.

I eat chicken broth, clear misso Soup, juice, Water, hot tea, and popsicles I made from juice.

When I made the decision to be banded, I was excited a lot of the time. It was when I was given a surgery date that nervousness also entered the picture.

Trust in my dr was worth a million.

When you get home from surgery, be sure to do the breathing exercise to get your lungs open and clear from surgery. Im still doing them.

And walk, even if it is just 3 mins at a time at first -- and you dont want to! It may be your big accomplishment for the day some days :grouphug:

Congratulations for getting this far. Youre saving your life!

Hi Molly,

Today I did quite well. I had three Protein Shakes, 2 coffes, 1 cup of tomatoes with onion,i plate of soup(fat free) but had bit lentils in there and bit barley and veggies. didnt have time to cook a Soup specially for me. This soup was still from sunday.

and drank bit of snapple. Not enough drinking today. I was soo busy today which is very good, coz then I dont think about food. lol. What did you eat today? Do u do a weightchart? I weigh myself every morning since start of liquid diet and write it down.

I have not weighed myself since June 27 - I have been in Costa Rica since then. I KNOW - I am crazy doing the liquid thing on vacation.... even the doctor told me I was crazy - but I didn't want to put the surgery off anymore. I go home on Saturday at which point I will surely weigh myself!!! I am afraid to weigh myself every day - I did that when I did weight watchers for like 3 years and I started to really obsess and freak out. I say this now...let's see if I have the resolve. I met someone who was banded who told me she got rid of her scale and just stopped at her regular doctor's office every 2 weeks to weigh herself...oh the self control....

I think what you ate is awesome - we can do this - we can do this. At this time of night I start to feel proud of myself....it is like 1pm that I want to jump off a bridge!!!

What do they do at the pre-op? 3 hours really??? blahhhh

Wow, enjoy your vacation. I know what you'r saying about weighing everyday. I usually dont like it. But my DH does. We usually diet together. Hes not fat at all. He weighs maybe 20lbs too much. So I used to hate weighing myself, coz I got discouraged if I didnt loose some days.

Yeh, it's true, at this hour we can be proud. It's very hard during the day. specially I when I prepare food for my kids.

You bet we can do this! Btw, I got the ok for the morning surgery. I think I'm the first one of the day. You too?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
