I go today to tell the girls in the office that I'm having the Lapband done. We are all overweight, and that would be from years of who's b-day is it tomorrow snacked filled days. We have all talked about the Lapband and how wonderful it would be. So, why did they come at me like a pack of wolves saying that I am taking the easy way out and that all this is going to do is cause me emotional and physical problems? I kind of lost it and told them, Hey who here is the only one with the gym membership, who walks just about everyday and lifts weights? Who's followed Weight Watcher to the tee and still has problems? ME! So when you are ready to come down off your cream puff cloud, and yes, that outfit does make you look fatter yet, I will be losing weight, and feeling better about myself. And also, that shade of jealousy green, really doesn't do much for you.

I guess, I kind of went over board a bit, but how two faced! We all talked about how we would support each other and blah blah blah... Oh well - my date is June 24th and I am just giddy with joy!!! So there, stick that in their hoagie sandwich and eat it!!!! WHEW!!! I feel much better, thanks for letting rant! LOL

You tell 'em!!! This is definitely a bad case of envy on their part! They now have to see you losing it and getting healthy and they have to face their own weaknesses. Well honey from here on out, their lack of will power is so NOT your problem! Good luck and I'll be banded 5 days behind you and we can keep encouraging each other on this website. Good Luck!!!!:smile2:

You tell them!! How dare they try to bring you down instead of cheering you on? That always seems to happen, why, I do not know but only you know when you are truly ready!! Good Luck.:smile2:

I had lapband 9 weeks ago and I have not told anyone I work with. I am a nurse that works nightshift with several other females. We are close and have all yo-yo'd over the years. I did not want everyone watching every single bite I put in my mouth and monitoring my progress. If I screw up and cheat, I don't need people to talk behind my back about "how much she spent on that surgery and then she is cheating". Believe me, I have worked with them long enough to know, if they talk about others, they will talk about me!

Lost 24 lbs. in 9 weeks

10 cc band, first fill 4 cc, second fill 5.2 cc

Ive been thinking about this a bit as I had one "helpful" friend behave similarly. I think it is fear too. i did not tell everyone I knew I guess because I felt like i would look a bit of a goose if I failed.

I have come to the conclusion that I will just ignore it and keep going. I have a very sweet elderly nana who is still alive who just insists "just 1 lamington wont hurt" i dont bother arguing becasue I love her. But i do say "youre right it wont, but I dont feel like it today". It is the same at parties etc. I dont talk about why i just say no thanks or not today. This may be something you adopt at workplace birthdays. Not today. That way maybe on the day it is your birthday you will say yes because it is a once a year treat. or maybe you will say no because the treat is a new dress that you used to be too fat for. But not today has become my diplomatic way out and my own internal dialogue for temptation. This way when i fall it is easier to get up. Good luck with it.

I'm getting banded on Thursday too! But thankfully everyone I've told, and there have only been a few, have stuck by me and supported me!

Yes, get used to this. I went through and am still going through this with friends and family. My mother and one of my sisters poked fun at how I ate this weekend when we were all on a road trip. I don't care though. They say the same things about losing it on your own, etc. I told my mom if she could lose it on her own, then what was the hold up? She's been overweight for more than thirty years but she feels kinda satisfied because she has curves in the right places. I am looking good and can shop in the misses department four months after surgery. The lapband book even tells you to look out for sabatoge. Welcome and good luck on your journey.

Precisely why I have decided not to tell anyone (other than my husband and sister) about my surgery! Best of luck to you - they will be hard to deal with in the coming months. Stay strong!

This is one of the reasons I didn't tell very many people my plans on getting the LAP-BAND®.

This sounds like a bunch of ladies who are too scared to do what you are doing. They are lashing out at you becuse they are angry with themselves. This is making them look at themselves and they don't like that. Just ignore them and focus on yourself. Do what's right for you and don't be surprised if a few of these "ladies" follow your lead. Good luck to you!

I agree with the other posters, its jealousy for sure. I would probably have that issue at my job, every time I turn around its a pot luck for this person or that. Or someone brings in donuts on Fridays and then complain complain about needing to lose weight....I mentioned it to my male co-worker that I am going to talk to the doctor about the lap band and he just kind of looked at me, but then said hey, to each his own!

I am going to try and keep it as hush hush as I can with the folks at work, they are not real supportive of me...But glad you let them have it there!! Good luck to you girl!

I was originaly scheduled for 01/05/10 but backed out 3 hours before surgery. I told my mom and she told a few family members. They were all against it. Last Monday I called the Dr and got a date of 7/21/10. I told my daughter and sister in law who are behind me.

Good for you- they musy be enviuos of the success you are about to experience!

I was banded on 1-8-2010 and have lost 95 pounds (as of my last follow-up on 6-14-2010)! If you exercise and eat right the LapBand is a great tool and you will see results that will encourage you more and more every day.

I was actually really lucky with the people I told about my surgery, they were all very suportive- but I chose carefully who was told and who wasn't. Now 5 months post-op these words come out of my mouth quite often: "I had a Lapand placed in January" and most people are surprised and then excited and start asking all kinds of questions.

I hope everything goes well for you.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
