I was banded on April 22nd...I have lost 39 pounds since the start of the pre-op diet. I have had one fill, almost 2 weeks ago...I was famished all the time until my first fill...I would say I have definitely noticed a difference in my hunger post my fill, but I can still eat most foods..the only time I have trouble is if I accidently drink right after taking a bite of food (i think it is so hard not to drink while eating)...I am going in for another fill in 2 weeks...I think the fill has helped but think that I could still use a bit more...

Congrats to everyone..amazing stats..I have some good days/weeks, some not so much. It is a long road ahead, so I am trying to think about this as a life change versus just a scale (ridding myself of emotional eating)...For those struggling a bit, you can do it!!!! Keep positive..even if the light at the end of the tunnel is dim, it is a light!

Great job everybody!!!

I wish I was doing a little better since surgery but I'm hanging in there. I was banded April 5th and have lost 14 lbs since. Lost 29 lbs pre op diet for a total of 43 lbs. I had a few questions for my April bandsters.

1. What has your surgeon said about measuring your food everytime? mine hasn't said anything about that. Only said my band isn't "working" until I hit restriction.

2. Why do some surgeons put in large fills in and some don't ? I have had 3 fills and only have a total of 5cc in my 14cc band.:bored:

Pegge,

I think as long as you are losing weight, you are doing a great job! In my mind, the important thing is that you are losing. :bored:

My Dr. told me that until I reach my goal weight eat no more than 3 x a day and no more than 1/4 cup or 2 oz per meal. He also said no more than 2 oz of Water every 15 minutes, and I'm not doing well at that at all!

I thought I would be starving with that small amount of food, but it isn't bad.

For fills, my Dr. told me his standard 1st fill is 3 ccs and then after that 1-.5 cc's depending on how you are losing. I had 3 cc's a couple of weeks ago and had to have 1 cc taken out because it was too much. He told me that most people don't even notice 3 cc's but that he doesn't want to do too much the first time.

Hello April Bandsters! Pretty new to this Forum thingy!

I was banded April 12th. I've lost 40 lbs since(10 lbs preop)! I've lost about 1.5 lbs a week. This week was first week back at exercising 30 minutes a day biking/walking. Hoping to kick up my average. :bored:

I personally don't weigh or measure my food. I eat what I want and stop when I am full. I don't intend on spending my life obsessing about the amount of food I eat and the point in this to me is to learn new life-long habits so that is what I am trying to do. I am letting the band guide me, when I stop losing, I get a fill.

As to fills, if your doctor is using a floroscope (sp) to do them they are putting in as much as they can according to what your body is telling them. Everyone is different. I would be leery of anyone who puts in a set amount for every person. I personally would not use anyone who is doing fills without it.

I am now wearing a size 14/16 pants and large shirt. I actually bought three pairs of size 12 pants that I hope to be into within a few more weeks! I can button them!

I am off my metformin, off my Nexium, off one of my cholesterol meds, off my Ibuprophen for pain, cut back my blood pressure meds. It is great!

Hope everyone else is doing great too!

I'm very excited that I'm getting close to my goal! My Dr. has started me on 1.5 C of food/meal now and 2 Snacks on the days I work out. I think I'm eating more like a normal person now. I only eat if I'm hungry, if I'm not hungry and it is the time I would normally have a snack, I don't have it.

I hope that I continue to do well. I'm definitely trying!

I was banded April 12 also. I have lost a total of 67 lbs so far. I am 11 pounds away from ONEderland and really excited to get there. I am really ashamed  to type this but I have'nt seen onderland since about 4'th or 5'th grade. YIKES!!! :( I have good restriction, my last fill was 8 weeks ago. I don't go back to the Dr. till Sept 15. Unless something changes I don't think I will have to have a fill then. I really love my band. :w00t: I hope to hear from you all soon.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
