New girl, ready to make this big step!

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I am here because I'm finally ready to start the process and get on with my new life. I have been overweight for nearly all of my adult life. I have tried diet after diet after diet, hours of exercise every week, and feeling so frustrated at my inability to lose more than two pounds in one year...

I'm ready for this.

I want to go to Belgium or Germany to get the lap band, I've got the money, I have my passport, I'm taking the summer off from school, I am good to go. I just need to select a surgeon and get scheduled.

So I'm basically just starting. I've been researching for over a year, but this is the closest I've gotten to doing something. I'm waiting to hear back from clinics in Belgium and Germany, and I would sure like to hear from anyone who can relate to my story.

Cheers!

Best wishes!! From what I heard, lapband was invented and developed in Houston Tx...that is where I am going to get mine done. I know we are all hoping for the best, and I wish it for you.

Hi there

Im new to this and like you I have been "big" my whole life. Here in New Zealand we can either fund it ourselves or sit on the waiting list... I am on the waiting list... its been nearly a year and Im ready to make to make the committment to take my life and healthy eating seriously...

Its nice to know Im not the only one that is this position... NZ does not have a great support network for me to talk too.

I wish you only the best for your new lease on life

Thanks for replying! I am self paying, I figure it's the best gift I can give myself. Unfortunately I have no health insurance of any sort, but I am going to see about visiting some friends in Leeds, UK on the way home.

In Oregon there's no public health services yet, but there are some doctors close by that can do fills and follow up care.

I feel more welcome now, having someone to talk to about all this helps immensely.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
