Potatoes and creamy soup

Ok so yesterday was my first day for some mushy foods. I am now 9 days post op, and I had some instant mashed potatoes (made with skim milk and one tablespoon of Olivenia margerine). I ate about 1/2 a cup and on top I put low fat cream of mushroom soup.

I see a lot of people on here say to stay away from potatoes as they are fattening, but if that is the only solid I have in a day and eat half a cup (140 cal) and some mushroom soup (200 cal), should this not be okay? I had a Boost high protein for breakfast.

I am still having a hard time getting 60g of protein a day. I might be around 40-45grams a day!!

It is impossible to meet the protein requirements until you are on a regular diet. Don't worry about it until then. I love my band - almost at my 3 month mark - good luck on your journey!

We had our surgery the same day but I'm still on full liquids. But I have made some soups with potatoes in them--pureed with other vegetables as well. I think it's fine to have some potatoes but you want something with protein also so make sure you have a shake or something else high in protein.

I guess every doc is different, I can't go to mushy food until two weeks are up. Beans are high in protein and easy to make soft. Or if you melted an ounce of cheese in your potatoes instead of marg., that would give you 8 oz of protein. Just an idea. Plus it would taste good! I've done that with pureed veg. soup just to boost the protein. Good Luck!
