May 10-14 Banders--How's it going? Share.

Recommended Posts

I was banded May 11th. I had really no pain until my 3rd post-op day, on which I had alot of shoulder pain. I just kept walking and walking. Since then I have not had too much pain. I take gas-x strips regularly and use a heating pad on my shoulder if it starts to hurt. For the past 3 evenings I have been having a low grade temp (99.4-99.9) and continue to just try and push fluids, walk, and deep breathe. I only seem to have a temp. in the evenings so I'm not too concerned about it. I am on Clear Liquids only this week and will get to add Protein to the clear liquids next week and will be on that diet of Protein Drinks and clear liquids for 5 weeks before I start soft foods. Definitely no hunger at this point and am continuing to lose weight, although I'm sure some of it is muscle at this point. The worst part so far is crushing all my meds and Vitamins yuk!

I have deep respect for those that have a long liquid diet after surgery. You will lose weight much faster than I will but I am not sure I could stick with it.

I am to a pudding/applesauce consistency. I made egg salad and processed the heck out of it and it was very good. I tolerate it very well. Tomorrow I get to start mashed potatoes and very well cooked vegetables. As long as I can mush it I can eat it. I am down about 5 lbs since surgery which isn't a lot but it is a loss and I am not feeling too deprived other than I would love to "sink" my teeth into something rather than pushing it with my tongue. I miss that feeling.

Hi everyone! I was banded on Thursday, May 13  I'm down about 7lbs. I think I'm doing well so far. I'm trying to stick to the diet the dr gave us (my husband was banded the week before me) but as the days pass it's getting harder and harder. We can have clear broths, Jello, pudding, yogurt (all sugar free) and our Protein shakes (1-2) per day.

Yesterday I added a teaspoon of smooth peanutbutter to my Protein shake and had that for dinner. That helped fill me up. My husband just made an egg drop Soup that he got the recipe for on here. I had two full cups of it and am comfortable. Peanutbutter and eggs arent on my diet for another week and a half. I'm worried that by eating them I might cause a problems...but then I see how varied other dr's diets are and think it's not that big of a deal (it's not like I'm eating steak - which I'd LOVE right now...mostly for the texture!). Ideas? Advice?

I've also had some sharp pains where I'm pretty sure my port is. I know the port it stitched in place, so I can only assume I'm pulling at a stitch when I move a particular way?

I was banded on the 13th. For the first few days I thought, OMG what the hell did I just do!! I 'm just starting to come around. I have lost 8 lbs in the past 4 days. Today I'm a little hungry for the first time. I am looking forward to some cottage cheese, refried Beans, mash potatoes, mmmm....OK I will stop now. I have 3 more days on clear liquids, then 1 week on full liquids, then 2 weeks on pureed. I won't do well on pureed I don't think. I will only be able to pureed fruits and vegetables. Anything else, makes me sick to even think about it. Well, good luck everyone, I can't believe out time is finally here. when I reach my goal, I'm going to buy dresses.

I was banded on the 14th. Its day 3 post op and I'm on soft foods, puddings, Protein shakes, etc. I did have part of a Protein Bar today but asked my dr first. It falls apart in your mouth, so he said as long as it was that soft, I was ok. Just to make sure I get my liquids in. I don't go back for a check up until June 2nd!!

Day one and two were pretty rough. Course, I didn't have to worry about liquids on day one, they gave me two bags of IV fluids during surgery... I peed all day. lol I was up all night trying to sip on Water, and it really made me nauseous. No vomiting, tho. I thought I was going to vomit when I was waking up, but I think that was the anesthesia. They gave me a shot for nausea and it really helped.

I have a post-op list from my dr. Day one is clear liquids, then the first two weeks its liquids like milk, Tomato juice, cream Soups, Protein Shakes. Anything "through a straw". So I think I'm going to not eat any more of those Protein Bars until I'm able to do more solid foods. It didn't hurt my stomach, but maybe cause I drank while I ate it. The purpose was to get more Protein in, and I didn't think I could drink another protein shake...

05/17/10 - I was banded on the 13th, and am doing pretty good. I had a bowel movement the second evening, but I have been taking stool softeners twice a day since the day after surgery. I went back to work today, and am pretty tired tonight. My incisions itch, and I feel a pinching and itching inside where I assume the port is. I'm still getting some gas pain, but nothing like the first couple of days, and I just walked and walked for that...I can tell if I am physically hungry, or emotionally hungry...anybody else noticing how many cheeseburger and pizza commercials there are on tv??? I had clear liquids 1st and 2nd day, and can now have full liquids...protein shakes (not liking that too much), cream Soup, cream of wheat...I'm supposed to do this for 2 weeks, then can move to the soft food phase. looking forward to that, but concerned that I may be eating too much. Have sent an email to nutritionist to ask more...I remember my surgeon saying my band was not too tight right now, so hoping that when I see him 3rd week of June, it wil be time for the first fill...am finally sleeping on my side again, and fitfully dreaming of being on my belly!

My surgery was on the 11th and I still have not been able to eat what I'm supposed to. I'm having anxiety about not getting my daily Protein in and the chewable Calcium and Vitamins are killing me! I keep telling myself to suck it up and do it and tell myself that each day that I will, however I don't.

I think I have screwed up because I have been eating small amount of "soft" food and not pureed, like the doctor says to (days 3-21).

Anyone that can give me suggestions on this, I would be grateful!

I'm also discouraged that I haven't lost any weight from the surgery date, I had lost 28 pounds on my Pre-Op diet and my doctor told me not to weigh because he had to put so much Fluid in me due to my blood pressure dropping. Still, I had to weigh..and it was a slap in face, I thought that I would at least have lost one pound.

Keep ur head up.. Every day is a new day, so just try to do better is how i look at it. I feel ya on getting the Protein i think one or two days i got it all in its hard. But i would try to get a Protein Drink that you like to be primary one, and say this is what I am drinking. I finally found Isopure flavor the green kind, that is my drink which has protein of 40 which is alot so i make it my goal to finish it during the day.. then After dinner have not soo favorite protein like muscle milk.. I also understand about the Vitamins the one i got, keeps making me nauseous, and i kept telling myself to no throw up not throw up, but today it beat me. So tomm i am going to try again..

Also, Dont be discouraged about you feel like you havent lost weight.. I know that after i had my surgery (which we had the same day) the day after i weighed myself and i gained like12 lbs in Fluid. So im sure that you are loosing weight, it might just be the extra weight u got from all the fluids, so u dont think you are but you really loosing weight.. Keep ur head up.. YOU CAN DO IT! I know it sucks, I feel like am starving and everyone around me is eating normal food but think about how gorgeous your going to be and the health benefits are you going get from this.. I hope this helps..

I was banded on the tenth. It wasn't until the sixth day of my recovery that I really felt better. I has a lot of issues with gas. I still feel pretty bloated. Having a hard time getting all of my Protein. I had Clear Liquids first 24 hours and now for the next two weeks i can incorporate cottage cheese, and yogurt into my diet. Next monday which is day 15, I will be able to move to pureed foods like applesauce and potatoes! I am so excited for that! I work overnights and this is my first shift back. Feelin pretty good! I have lost a total of 20lbs in the past three weeks(two weeks was pre op diet of Optifast). My belly is really swollen still though and very bruised.

I have to say I am really amazed how opposite ends of the scale every doctor is when it comes to after surgery diet. You would think there would be some similarity to it but it isn't. I can start mashed potatoes and cooked veggies today. I can't imagine having to do liquids for so long. I feel for you both and everyone else out there who has to. If you are worried about Vitamins, try Vitamin Water Zero. I tell you that is all I drink and I have had minimal problems. I don't know if that had anything to do with it but if I can't stomach the gummie vitamins I know I am getting plenty with my fluids. I gained 5 lbs after surgery on the 12th. It will come back off. I wonder if they could give you a Water pill to help. I have BP medicine that has a small water pill in it and the water came off in a day or two. I know its hard but the more Fluid you can get it hopefully the more it will flush out.

Take heart, this won't be forever. It will all work out in time. It just may take a little longer.

I've had this uncomfortable bloaty feeling since last night. All I can think is that I over did it with the Soup my husband made (even though I didn't feel that way until about a half hour after I finished drinking/eating). got up this AM and had a big mug of Decaf chi tea with a little skim milk and splenda and I just now had a jellow snack. I think I'm going to make another cup of tea (at least it's getting my liquids in and actually helps the bloating feeling).

You mentioned the Vitamins making you sick. That happens to me with regular adult vitimins but not childrens. Our dr actually has patients take two flinstone complete vitimins a day. I've had no problems with them and have taken them on an empty stomach. You might want to give them a try if your regular vitimins are making you sick!

Just curious, I have lost 9 lbs in 5 days, (5 days post op now). Does anyone think that's too much. Just a little concerned. Should I call my doctor? Thanks!!

Thanks for the support! I know it will be fine, it's just at times you get that little bit of discouragement and that is when pre-band, I'd just go eat something and THINK I feel better! How are you doing today?

I've lost 14 lbs. in the first week post-op so I don't think you're losing it too fast. Going by the majority on this board, seems we're right on track. I just know it won't last at that rate so I'm happy for the kick start! Best of luck on your journey.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
