I cannot speak for all hospitals but I work in an operating room, and they do still perform surgeries during a period. They will probably just have you wear a hospital issued (lovely!) pair of underwear with a pad attached, and they will then work around it. Good luck!

The dreaded Aunt paid me a visit the day of. They didn't even issue me the undies...said it was no big deal and to the OR I went. I was mortified, but they didn't even bat an eye.

I just had my surgery 4/20/2010 and I got my period that morning. They said it didnt make a difference at all. They said I had to wear a tampon(no big deal)vs a pad because they required me to only wear the gown they gave me. The only thing that worried me was my period was heavier because of the Heperin shot...its a blood thinner. Other than that easy.

I'm so glad that you asked this question since it has been on my mind. I am having my surgery on Monday May 3rd and that is when I am suppose to start. That would happen wouldn't it! Now I'm not worried about it. Thanks you guys!

I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy last year when Flo was visiting. They didn't care. I kept a maxi pad between my legs (with no underwear) and went on with the procedure. It feels a little awkward on the side of being a patient, but it doesn't even phase them.

It wasnt my lapband surgery but when I had my wisdom teeth out many years ago that I had my period - I was told the opposite, NO tampons, as they were a huge risk if emergency surgery was required or something awful happened like I ended up in a coma or something and the tampon was forgotten about. So I got some of those lovely huge undies like they give you after you've had a baby and a loaf of bread, sorry, enormous pad, also probably the super duper maternity version.
