EMERGENCY! Need advice!!

Recommended Posts

Okay, so here is my problem. I am on my pre-op diet (surgery May 3rd), which consists of Protein shakes twice a day and a high Protein dinner with greens. I've been doing it and have no problems (down 9 lbs, in fact).

BUT, I am going out of town this weekend for my friend's going away party. She is moving to Singapore for 3 years. All of my college friends will be there and they all like to drink and have a good time. AND, they're going to want ME to drink and have a good time (I don't get to see them that often). I know what you're thinking, "just say no". I plan to. But I don't want them to know about my surgery and me not drinking at my friend's going away party is suspcious. I could probably get away with drinking one night and be fine for my surgery, but I want to do everything right.

Here is what I need: A medical excuse (nothing drastic) that I can use to explain why I'm not drinking. Maybe a medical test I would be having the following week that demands I don't drink. Maybe I've been having acid reflux and the doctor wants to have me not drink for 2 weeks? Two of my close friends who will be at the party know about my surgery, and once I get my story in line, they will back me up and it will be easy not to participate. I just don't want to look suspicious! If any of you have had to do the same thing, please, please help me out! Thank you!!!

There are so many medicines that you can't have a drink with. Zillions..go with that. I also know that there are medical tests that make you go on liquid diets also. I'm going for surgery on 5/4. Trying hard to stay busy. Good luck for the both of us. I have a fancy wedding on 5/2--That's 2 days before the surgery. I told them to give me anything to do during the wedding as I will not be eating. Can't wait for a year from now.

You can say you are getting a life insurance blood test on Monday and your liver enzymes will be elevated if you drink and they will turn down your application.

Tell them you're on antibiotics for something, you're not supposed to drink on antibiotics.

Instead of telling people that I was having the Lap Band surgery, I told people I was having gallbladder surgery, lol.

Wait thats the story I'm using. Poor gallbladder being blamed for everything. Tell them you are being treated for an urinary tract infection, alcohol needs to be avoided to ensure antibiotics potency. Then you can tell them it leaves more alcohol for them. I'm on the pre op diet and no alcohol so at a business function(cocktail party) this week and asked the bartender to give me club soda in a cocktail glass with an olive and i just carried that around all night. Good luck

Thanks for all the great advice! Any idea of what specific medications can't be mixed with alcohol??? Or that would be really really bad with alcohol?

You could always say you drank too much last night and woke up with a hangover, so you are going to skip the drinks.< /p>

This is an awesome idea, lol. I was wondering what to do about a wedding I'm going to on the 1st.

I think I'll stick with a colonoscopy? LOLOL. You def can't drink before those.

Flagyl is an antibiotic that they specifically warn you against consuming alcohol while you're taking it. Tell them you're recovering from a respiratory infection. :-)

LOL........ but then people would worry that something is wrong with you getting a colonoscopy at such a young age.

How about just saying you are trying to stay away from alcohol because it has too many calories and you are trying to take off some weight? or maybe, "I just don't feel like drinking today."

Flagyl. If you take the antibiotic Flagyl (you can say it's for a urinary tract infection) with alcohol, it causes a VIOLENT reaction.

Ha! Cathy beat me to it

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
