All of you get banded before me so I am hanging on your experiences. The 12th will be here soon enough. I start my mandatory pre-op on May 5th. It is suggested I start a high Protein low carb diet or three Protein shakes with one high Protein low carb meal another week or two prior to that.

I gave up soft drinks too. I am hooked on Vitamin Water Zero. I HATE plain Water, makes me gag. I am paying close attention to the protein in a meal. It's hard and still keep it low carb.

I started using this new single packet crystal light in 17oz of water. They have about 5 cals and no sugar, and a few dozen flavors to chose from.

Hello there!

I am a May Bander!

I had a tentative date for May 12th, but it is now May24th  The hospital & my Surgeon's schedule just wasn't matching up, so it needed to be changed...unfortunately!

I feel like I have a marathon of appointments coming up!

My surgeon

sleep Clinic

Psych

Blood Gases

Exercise & Rehab

Nutrition

And of course I have been going to all of the support group meetings, as many as possible that are available. I have been meeting all kinds of GREAT people at many stages of banding & bypass. They are all so great & helpful!

I am so excited & was soooo disappointed to learn it was scheduled for 12 days later. But at least it's still in May. These next 7 weeks better fly on by!!! :)

Good luck to all other May banders!

Is it weird that I haven't had to do any of the testing?

I'm scheduled for May 13th. I was doing Atkins with my sister-in-law to help her loose her last few pounds so she could have surgery when I got my call saying I had been approved. My vacation is June 5 so I scheduled surgery so I could be back on solid foods for that. I am excited. At first was nervous but am getting excited. Sis N law said to quit Atkins and enjoy my last few meals before i have to start my pre-op diet. Fried foods and steak are on my list. I will miss pizza since that is a family tradition on Friday nights but I can still eat hot wings I hope.:)

Yes - I think it is odd that you had not testing done!!! I had 9 viles of blood taken, exrays, ultrasounds, Upper GI's - shrink, and all that - I would ask your Dr and Most insurances require most of these! Good Luck!

My surgery is May 4 at NYC with Dr. Kurian. I start my liquid diet tomorrow. I've eaten like a pig and can barely fit in my clothes so I'm a little glad there will be an end to this last meal thing already. That said I'm not looking forward to this liquid diet. I've a fancy schmacy wedding on May 2 and I'll be drinking Water and diet soda so that won't be fun. That said because I'll have been on the liquid diet I should be able to fit into a dress and not wear a sheet. I have been working out at the gym so that has been my one good thing that I've done.

I havent had any tests done either, maybe its the insurance that requires this. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas, what about everyone else that have had tests?

Hi Everyone:

I'm having my Surgery on May 4th and my Pre-Op on April 28th. No one has told me about being on a liquid diet before surgery yet. Is this something I need to start now? Should I call my dr. office about this? This is my first time on your message board and I'm already worried now.

I do suggest you call your dr.'s office. Where i will be operated, I have 14 days of liquid diet, and then the operation. Not all doctors function the same way.

Just call to be on the safe side.

Liz:smile2:

bummed, found out today that sugar free Jello is not on my pre-op diet. OMG that has been the only thing keeping me sane...

Oh well....just having a really hard time with the Protein Shake thing. Isopure is the only thing I can stomach....

And if I don't grow feathers and cluck by the time this is over with chicken every night it will be a miracle...

Told my co-workers not to stand very close to me, I am a fat woman on a liquid diet and don't know when I might be overcome with hunger and take a bite!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
