Any May 2010 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I havent had any tests done either, maybe its the insurance that requires this. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas, what about everyone else that have had tests?

i also have BCBS - did you call them - they required a shrink, a certian BMI, 5years worth of Diet history from Dr or jenny craig stuff like that! Good Luck!

I started using this new single packet crystal light in 17oz of Water. They have about 5 cals and no sugar, and a few dozen flavors to chose from.

We can drink Crystal Light for pre op???? That is great since I love soda and can't have that - I also hate Water but love Crystal Light...that just lifted me up a bit - thanks:thumbup:

Ya thats all I had to do, was a physch eval, a certain BMI and 5 years of being over weight, oh and 3 month diet, I finished all that and was approved!!

I just read people that have to take sooo many tests.

I do suggest you call your dr.'s office. Where i will be operated, I have 14 days of liquid diet, and then the operation. Not all doctors function the same way.

Just call to be on the safe side.

Liz:smile2:

I talked to my dr. office and they said I don't need to do anything different prior to my pre-op appt. on 4/28. Maybe they will put me on a liquid diet at that time, which is 6 days before my surgery. Does that sound right to you guys?

Special K Protein Water packets has Protein and Fiber. 5g of each. I like the pink lemonade. Still Vitamin water zero is my fav. 16 days until I have to start my pre-op diet of all liquids and Protein shakes each day for a week prior to surgery.

May 4th for me!! I'm so excited! My surgeon requires you to lose 20 lb from the time of the first consultation to the preop date. I've lost 14 of those, and I have 9 days until my preop appointment. That's cutting it close, but I'm using the EAS drinks and nothing else, so it's coming off steadily. I've had quite a few Last Suppers myself, but it's all liquids from here on out.

May 11th is my surgery date! I'm super excited...

I begin my liquid diet - Optifast 800 - on April 27th - for 2 weeks.

I cut out all caffein this week, one week before the liquid diet, only because I think next week will be hard enough dealing with no solids.. I want to have already won the caffein battle!

Good luck to all May bandsters! Stay strong!

May 14th is my date. I can't wait and can wait all at the same time!

I've been having a hard time following the pre-op high Protein and low carb diet. For the liquid diet I am to drink 3 Protein drinks and eat one low carb high Protein meal, plus two Snacks which is a fruit (preferably an apple).

Since I've been having such a hard time with the low carb diet I am modifying the liquid diet for now until I do start it. So I'm having 2 Protein Drinks and 2 low carb/high protein meals with either fruit or a yogurt as a snack. I'll do this until 4/30 when I start the post op liquids diet.

I've been using Isopure drinks. 100% whey protein, 40g protein, 160 calories, 0g carbs. I couldn't find shakes that I liked and was getting very frustrated. I bought the sample pack from bariatriceating.com, plus they also sell chewable Vitamins including multi, calcium+D, and omega-3s!

Good luck everyone! Looking forward to sharing experiences and getting to know each other!

Low carb diets are so hard for the first two weeks! Have you been doing it for longer then that? What I found helpful if I was craving carbs was to get fruit or yougert, but stay away from the breads and pastas. Usually that stops my craving and I never eat carbs past 6-7.

If your still having a hard time finding protein you like, you should try Bodybuilding.com - Protein Finder! A Search Tool That Finds The Perfect Protein For You!

my trainer suggested it to me and it has all different kinds and flavors! The nice thing about it is that you can search by what you are looking for.

Good luck!

My surgeon recommended EAS AdvantEDGE carb control, which can be purchased at Wal Mart, Sam's, and I have seen it in regular grocery stores. It has 17 grams of Protein, 2 grams net carbsm 119 calories, 0 sugars. The flavors are chocolate fudge, strawberry, vanilla and some other dark chocolate flavor. I use the chocolate fudge and find that they taste almost just like the pre-made Hershey's chocolate milk from the store. Quite yummy. I've been playing around with the drinks, trying to transition into 14 days of preop liquid only, and so far, over a period of 3-4 weeks, I have lost 14 lb. But I have also been doing some serious eating as well. You know, The Last Supper. I have had quite a few of them! At any rate, I'm down to 9 days before preop, with 6 lbs to lose. I am confident that I can do it! These drinks are really good, and I guess the high-protein content is what helps me stay full. I'm pretty picky about taste, and I'm so thankful that I found something that wasn't just tolerable, but something that I really like. EAS will be my friend for the rest of my life, I guess. It's not expensive, either, just a buck and change per container. A case at Sam's is 28.00. Good luck, I know it is a challenge! I hope you find something that satisfies you. This is difficult enough, I can't imagine not being satisfied with your drink. Keep looking, don't give up!!!

I have tried these! They are prolly one of the better ones out there! I still like making my own shakes with the Protein I like, but when Im in a rush, I always make sure I have these in the fridge for a quick grab!

My surgery date is May 10th!!! I am excited and nervous. I will be starting my pre-op diet next week. I meet with the surgeon and the nutritionist next week. I don't know what the nutritionist will tell me for the pre-op diet but I want to start doing some shopping. Does anyone know how much Protein, fat, carbs, etc that we should have in each Protein Shake? How many calories should we consume daily on the pre-op diet? I am thinking about using the Herbalife shakes because they are really tasty but I want to make sure they have all the nutrients, etc that I will need. I am also looking for some fellow Lapband buddies. I don't have a LOT of support so I could use the support. Thanks!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
