You know I always thought so too.

Of course, some people are "big boned" and more muscular and meant to be bigger (not fatter!). But one thing that absolutey blew me away from weight loss is that I dont have the body type I thought I did.

I'd always look at models in magazines and think I was like a totally different species, that I could never get that thin. By the way, I'm NOT that thin and wouldnt try to be, health is more important. But it turns out I actually DO have that sort of body. I dont have the wide hips and broad shoulders I thought I did, I'm actually fine boned and fine muscled.

My skeletal remains will be larger than a size 6 !
LMAO! I have to agree. Even back before I ever gained weight I was really thin hipless and shoulders as wide as a line backer. One of my students once told me I was shaped like a yeild sign. And she was right.

I've been the exact same weight for about two months, but my 14's are getting too big and the 12's are starting to fit pretty well. I'd like to be a 10. yes, it would be nice if the scale would cooperate, but fitting into smaller clothes and looking thinner is a bigger success than the actual weight--I can be 175 pounds of muscle in a smaller size because I'm toned, or 150 pounds of flab in a bigger size--I'll choose the former.

You lost 100 pounds in 6 weeks??!!

Lol...no, I lost 111 pounds in 13 months. But I plateaued for two months--the clothes got bigger but my weight remained the same. My point was if the weight remains the same and the clothes size is smaller, that is a good thing! I'd rather be a smaller size and weigh more which means I'm toned, than weight less but be a bigger size. Does that make sense?

Ok, I am a newbie to all the forums, but just pulled this one up.... I have my band next week, 29th, and i just don't get it...I am a size 24, yes 24, and am reading about you all being sizes 6, 12, 14.....OMG I have not seen those sizes since I was 15 yrs old, and I am almost 50!!! I cannot even being to fathom losing that much weight to be able to consider those sizes.... I will be just so thrilled to be able to get out of the "women's department" into a 16!! I am almost 300lbs and it is a bit frustrating when I read about someone doing a procedure as drastic as this when they were in 16's to begin with, or barely weigh 200lbs. Does anyone else share this feeling. More power to all that can achieve thoses goals, but honestly, I will feel like a winner if I hit 200!!!

OH, It can and will happen if you use your tool well. I am 46 and just bought a size 8 a few days ago. My high weight was 267lbs and a size 20 just a 1 1/2 yrs ago. Never in a million years did I think I would wear an 8. And as far as someone with less weight to lose it doesn't bother me a bit, more power to them for taking control as soon as they did. I wish I had done this before I hit 200 and everyone that gets to a weight that they are pleased with no matter what goal they choose is a winner. When I was 267 I thought I would just be happy at 170 but I got there and reliezed I still needed to lose more to be at a healthy weight so I have lowered my goal twice now but when I reach 150 I think I'll stick to that because I'm only 6lbs from it and I feel pretty good at this weight. Good luck to you and welcome to LBT, it can be a great place with alot of support when you need it.

JB, congratulations your band date and welcome to the forum. I do have one question for you. Why are you frustrated that someone would have this procedure when they were in a size 16 or barely 200lbs?

I would like to explain why I decided to have the procedure. There is a history of obesity related diseases that run rapidly in my family. I have watched my grandmother and mother suffer from these diseases along with my younger siblings. I happened to be the "smallest" in my family. I am smaller, but still unhealthy. A size 16 on my 5'4" frame made me look huge. I took a drastic step to have surgery so that I can become healthy. I was gaining and gaining. I did not want to wait until I was morbidly obese before I did something about it. I am feeling better about myself each day. My HBP is getting lower and I pray that soon I will not have to rely on meds to keep it controlled. My doctor suggested that I lose 50lbs. A 50lbs loss for anyone is a big weight loss success. The band is helping me get there.

Good luck to you. I wish you well.

It saddens me that people that have been picked on their whole life for being fat are being picked on for not being fat enough. I know you're new, but try to have better manners.

I used to think the same way when I used to read these posts, but now I can say the same, I used to be a 22 and now I'm a 12 and I'm still losing!!! You'll find that once you get past bandster hell (don't let it discourage you), you'll see the scale moving and you'll see that being smaller will be a totally realistic goal. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you love your band as much as I love mine :bored:

I wrote a thing about how we let numbers determine our success and happiness...for instance age, weight, money etc.

A number can always change, the person who changes that number is the success because they have the power.....some people weigh 200lbs and have lost 100lbs to get there, they aren't any less successful just because they don't weigh 130

This is just an example of why I go by weight and not size. I went shopping yesterday and bought a size 6 capris, Now no way I wear a size 6. The last time I was a size 6 was about 20yrs ago and I weighed 120lbs I know for a fact my 154lb body does not go in a 6 yet they fit so I take them with a smile on my face. Go to the next store and grab a size 6 dress slacks and could not get them anywhere near zipped, ended up with a size 10 and again this happens when I grab a pair of jeans. Ended up with a size 8 so inconclusion I am somewhere between a 6 and a 10 depending on what I'm buying and where I'm buying it. I just can't go by that it's too iffy but at the end of the day I still weigh 154lbs and that just seems a little more exact too me.

I'm a broad person. Even my surgeon agrees,, lol. They write on your chart your body type- narrow, normal, broad. The felt my shoulders and hip bones and told me I was broad. I told him "no sh@#". Honestly, I woiuld be very happy to just fit into a size 12, to be able to shop in the "normal" department at stores.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
