i'm exactly one week post op today and i'm still having bad chest pains. it's a dull pain constantly but when i breathe in deeply it's hurts worse. it's located right in the center of my chest (between my breasts) and i can also feel it in the center of my back in the same spot just on the opposite side of my body. i had an xray done today to make sure all is ok with the band placement but we prob won't have info back on that til monday at the earliest. i had a hernia repair at the time of surgery so i don't know if this is part of the issue or not. i've also experienced a few single hiccups here and there which are odd becuase hiccups usually come in groups, but these are just one every now and then. i don't seem to have any other gas pains so i don't know if it's still the gas that everyone talks about. my doc's nurse said it might be tubing rubbing on the diaphragm and that kinda freaks me out that the tubing could just be doing whatever it wants in there. has anyone else had this or is having this issue???

hey! i was banded on monday, and i am having exactly the same pains. i get the spontanious hiccups as well. my pain is on my left side tho, not in the center, but it is hard to breathe, and i often loose my breath. i am sure its just from the gas they put into you during surgery. i am not worried about it, but it might be a good thing you got some xrays done, just in case. hope this makes you feel better :)

I wouldn't be so concerned. I was banded on the 12th as well partner! I felt that way for the first 4 or 5 days too. It's since gone as is most of the gas pains. I do burp a bit, but being a guy it's like a badge of honor, like showing off.:) When I burped it really hurt there for a while. Now all is well. Things have been sailing along right now. Promised not to weigh myself again til Monday. Too often isn't a good thing, it'll happen whether I weigh myself or not. I'm just wondering at what point the LB, the worrying about getting enough Protein, Water, etc will be out of my head. I'm sure we're all going through the same thing that the band is in our thoughts EVERY waking moment. Not issues or problems, just conscience of it. I wonder when life goes back to normal. Do you have these thoughts as well?

i agree. the band is always on my mind. i feel like i talk about it constantly and cruise this site constantly, too. today i asked my husband if he's fed up with my band yet cuz i never shut up about it or something relating to it (how i'm feeling, what i'm eating or rather... not eating, etc.). i worry about my Protein intake, Water intake, every little feeling inside my body that isn't "normal". it's like an obsession!!!

I hear ya. You seem to be doing great though, 13 lbs in 7 days! I guess it's good to compare what others are doing who got banded the same time, let alone the same day. For the first couple/three days I was only at like 300 calories a day, but not in the least bit hungry. I've added some of that great pea Soup so a bit more. My tally for today is 600 calories, 75 Grams of Protein and 48 oz of Water. Now if the yogurt and soup count as fluids, then the amount is probably around 68oz. Is this anywhere in line with where you're at? My name is Bob by the way.

try a heating pad. i'm 2.5 wks post-op. had the same issue and same place of pain. put the heating pad on the highest setting you can stand and leave it on the area where you feel the most pain for as long as you can stand. for me, gas pains were gone within about 4 hours.

hope it works for ya.

You are only 1 week post-op , give your body some time to heal. Of course if you are really worried touch base with your dr. but I really didnt feel NO pain till after the second week... felt more normal by the 3rd week.

As for the hiccups. Well I still get them, they have become my cue that I'm DONE eating. I've not had any difficulties with PB'ing or anything. I just get HUGE hiccups that actually hurt!! I've become used to them and I listen to my body telling me ENOUGH food.

Not complaining.....I LOVE MY BAND

love the heating pad idea. i will have to try that. gotta get a heating pad now. seems like i'm buying some new for my band everyday. lol

bob, as far as the 13lbs goes... that hasn't all been since the band. some of it was before on the pre op diet. i think i've prob lost about three to four pounds since the band. that's still ok for a week i think though.

my hiccups are the big painful ones, too. just like a giant hiccup that hurts real bad. i'm like "wow" those are massive!!! they never happen when i'm eating though. usually just kinda outta nowhere and unexpected.

Hey i am now 14days post op but the first 5 days were horrible chest pains .. I tried the heating pad but didnt really help.. I walked alot.. When the chest pains got really bad i would walk up and down the stairs and it definitly helped i think from the elevation and the little bounce you do from walking up and down. Id say i would only be sitting down for maybe 20 min at a tyme than walking around. I went to bed on day 5 with really bad pains woke up day six and it magicaly disapeared and i havnt had pains sence. Well good luck and congrats

I'm 4 weeks post-op and had chest pains the first week. It was mostly in under my sternum but also radiated to each side under my ribs. I called the doctor's office and they said it was probably gas and to walk alot. Gas X didn't really help. Then one day I had a huge burp and there was no more pain. What I think is that while there was swelling in the band area from the surgery the stomach gas couldn't get out. Once the swelling went down I could burp and haven't had a problem since! Yours will probably go away on its own in a couple days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
