Protein Shakes when milk makes you gag??

I am hoping someone can give me a couple suggestions.

I don't like milk, never have. Can't drink it plain, it makes me gag....so gross! Have never been a big milk shake fan, or ice cream either. Can't stand chocolate milk! I can eat yogurt and sherbet ice cream, no problem.

So....hubby bought some of the Protein powder from costco this weekend, chocolate and vanilla. The chocolate is NEVER going to work, even put Peanut Butter in it still couldn't do it (hubby drank that one). The vanilla wasn't much better but I put about a tablespoon of Tang in and and that made it a little better. But I know that's never going to fly with the nutritionist. I was able to drink about half of it before I started gagging on it.

Incidentally I mixed them in the Magic Bullet with ice to make them a little frosty.

I'm not required to drink the shakes yet, just trying to be proactive and find something that won't make me gag since I know thick milky stuff is an issue for me.

Does anyone have an idea for a Protein Shake that is more icy/fruity than milky?

Unjury Chicken Soup flavor protein, mix it with warm water, 90 calories, 21g protein. Buy a single pack and see if it works for you instead of sweet drinks. They also have an unflavored version but I haven't tried it.

Have you tried:

1/ soya milk

2/ rice milk

3/ oat milk

I can't stand cows milk either. A lot of the vegan alternatives are very palatable and remarkably different in taste and texture. Most of them can be otained either sweetened, plain or flavoured. If you can't get hold of them or don't like the commercially available brands you could try making your own "milks" from various grains like oats and rice and stuff. I have a book "How it all Vegan" which is a vegan cookbook - very small and cheap and it gives instructions on how to make these "milk" products.

Like I said, I don't like milk either, but these alternatives are very palatable.

Not a cow's milk drinker myself... have hated it since I was a small child. I use soy milk. I find the additional texture makes the shake thicker and more satisfying as well. Good luck!

Sorry, didn't read the part about the thickness of milk as something you didn't like... I would then go with rice milk.... much thinner than soy or milk.

While I know you don't like cow's milk here is a list of some items I add to my Protein drinks. I am presurgery.

Using a miniblender I mix:

3 Milk Ice Cubes (fat free milk) Approxemetly 1/3 cup

3 fruit flavored Water ice cubes (The carbinated non branded clear fruit flavored soda water sweetened with nutrasweet. Usually 50 cents at grocery store)

2/3 cup fat free milk

2/3 cup frozen fruit (pitted cherry's, bananas, strawberries, etc.)

1-2 teaspoons Fat/Sugar Free pudding powder

1-2 packets Stevia

Add water for correct consistancy

Other flavoring options

sugar free chocolate syrup

Sugar Free Davinci syrups

I just ordered a sample pack from unjury and I'm going to order a sample pack from BariatricEating too. They have a summer melon that looks like it might be ok.

I also bought some almond milk at Walmart tonight. We also got some frozen berries and some peaches.

The almond milk doesn't have any smell....so far so good. I plan on making a shake with it before I go to bed. I will let you all know how that works out.

I think I will try the soy milk too. My boys had to have soy formula as babies and that stuff smelled horrible...I gagged when ever I made it. I hope the Silk mild might be different.

New life, new way of eating, new food.

The melon from Bariatric Eating is really good. The Pom Razz Sangria is, too--mixed with Crystal Light lemonade, it's my favorite Protein.

Their PURE unflavored protein isolate is very, very good too. It's great added to all kind of things.

You might try something like IsoPure, sold online or at GNC and stores like that; 15 gm protein in a fruity drink (like Sobe drinks, kind of). Also Unjury sells an unflavored protein powder, 20 gm of protein per scoop; you can mix it with sugar/fat-free Jell-O or pudding (with the pudding it keeps the texture from being quite as creamy, but doesn't change the taste at all), or you can mix it with other foods. And BariatricEating.com has a lot of protein supplements, snacks and such, that sound good (for when you're off liquids).

I think once I'm on 'real food' the protein won't be an issue... meat and cheese and eggs, OH MY!!!
