Hi everyone. I am Julianne and I am heavier than I've ever been. I will be 36 next month and am really feeling that I'm less mobile than ever. It's very subtle, but walking hurts my feet and lower back with the extra weight I'm carrying.

I have PCOS and UARS which is a form of sleep apnea. My A1C was a little elevated at my last dr appt and he sent me to a really skinny dietician that told me to balance my carbs. The only diet that has really worked for me was Atkins, but I think that was a stinky and unhealthy diet.

Here's my thing, though.

I mentioned the Lap Band to my doctor a few months ago (at the appt that he gave me to the dietician) and I think that over time he's been sort of giving me the right diagnosises (diagnoses?) to get this approved through my Blue Care HMO.

I guess my thing is.... and can someone help with this.... I feel like I'm giving up on diets. I know I haven't been able to stick with it.... I feel lazy about it.... it hurts too much to do a lot of exercise in my joints and I know that is 100% because of my weight. I've done low fat, low carb, no carb, no sugar, vegan, weight watchers, grapefruits, Soup diets.

I quit smoking after 20 years (yay me!) with Chantix and I have probably put on 15-20 lbs since then (it will be a year in June) and I'm sure that is part of why I got bumped up a little. I guess seeing the 200 coming closer on the scale (at 5'1" or so) has been my wake up call.

I want to feel better. I don't want diabetes. My cholesterol and BP are ok for now miraculously.

I've had fertility problems that I don't want to get into unless someone wants to hear them :) but it's been a long, expensive, and sad struggle and I think weight loss could help with that, too.

So hello... and what do they want to hear in a psych consult?? What are the right things I need to say? I realize it's going to be work. I need to change. And I'm not doing well trying to lose weight on my own.

Help!

To be honest, you are giving up on diets if you get the lapband. Why? Because the lapband isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle change. It's a tool that will help you lose the weight and keep it off. I was just like you. I tried every diet I could think of. They worked...for awhile, and then I gained it all back and then some because I got tired of the same routine over and over again. The Lapband is different. It allows me to eat foods but in way small portions. And I don't deprive myself of the better things once and awhile. Like a tiny piece of cake or a cookie. Which is what I was deprived of before and ultimately failed. I also quit smoking 11 years ago after smoking for 1 years with the help of a pill. I went through a nasty divorce. Went through open heart surgery. And got married again. If that's not enough stress to kill someone, I don't know what is. Needless to say I gained alot of weight. My highest was 304lbs and I am 5'6" tall. I finally realized that after much soul searching and research that I couldn't do this on my own anymore. And if I didn't do something different I was going to die. So I decided to get the lapband. And I am so glad that I did because I have lost more weight with the band then I have with any other diet I've tried. And the great thing is I am keep it off. Oh yeah and I didn't mention that I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine too. I have to call for an appointment for another study because I think I'm ready to come off of it. I was also borderline everything, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, fatty liver..etc. All of that is normal now.

In my phsyc consult he just asked me how my current family life was. What my life was like growing up. And why I wanted to get the lapband. It took about 15 minutes. They are trying to determine that you are doing this for the right reasons. Just be honest and answer the questions that he/she asks you.

Good luck and I hope that some of this has helped you.

Thank you for your response.

Just like with quitting smoking and needing help, I'm realizing that I can't do this on my own anymore. I don't know if it's a food addiction or what, but I do think that I eat *healthy* foods.... I just also eat unhealthy foods sometimes.

I guess I just don't think I'm "that big" but I know that it affects my self-esteem big time. And I know it affects my fertility. And just giving me some Metformin to try to regulate my ovulation isn't going to cut it for me.

I just worry that my doctor will say "well we don't think that you tried hard enough at dieting...." If he looked in my cupboards and saw the different crap I've accumulated over the years (Nutrisystem, WW, Slimfast, Jenny C anyone?) then it would be pretty obvious.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
