Now to everyone in KC-- I have a problem, I'm a tightwad. We just were given a dress code at work and one of the sipulations is that no pants below the waist (I'm sure you all have seen that great look where the pants hang to the mid thigh area especially on young men and they are holding them up by the crotch?) well that is now my problem and I don't want to spend any money for new pants but I guess I will have to if I still want to work. Got another fill Thursday and up to 4.2 cc's, didn't lose but 1/2 pound and I wasn't happy with that, but there again pants are dragging. But all is well as definitely lost inches these last couple of weeks, thus pants down to mid thigh. (Want you all to picture a 67 going 68 year old woman who looks something like Maxine, walking down the street holding up her pants at the crotch, she would definitely be in style, all she would have to have is purple pants with a red hat). Hope this brings a smile this weekend here in KC as I am sure we are all unhappy with the rain and wish we could be enjoying some sunshine without the high temperatures and humidity.

Malley weight loss has a support group the 2nd saturday each month and they have a clothing exchange.

Received an e-mail that they will be closing the exchange because they need the room. Don't know when this is to take place but was led to believe it will be shortly. Unfortunately I am one of those people that works weekend  and can't even get to a support group meeting which I would love to attend, wish they would have one on Wed, Thurs, or Fri which are my days off. Seriously thinking of going to DAV thrift store, Salvation Army, etc. etc. though to get new pants and blouses until I at least reach my goal.

oldoneyoungagain - Thanks for the support . I have had a great week this week - very steady loss every day but I can still eat too much so I will go in for another fill. If the weight loss continues steady I may wait for that 4 wk appt. I already made. My dog is very happy with this whole banding business - he is loving getting to go out on a walk every night.

As to being a tightwad - have you tried joining one of the Freecycle lists in the area? I have gotten bags of clothes off the local ones - you can can them at The Freecycle Network

dm5201 - We are neighbors - I live over near Ameristar Casino and the caves!

Ladykcusa-I'll not learn unless I ask, especially if I don't know. Please tell me who and what is Savers, where are they, etc. etc. I know I was sorta poking fun at myself, but I really am going to have to get some clothes. I feel terrible in these baggy clothes even though it shows weight has been lost. Thanks for all your support and help.

Totally understand about the "eating too much thing". That was what I was feeling. Even though I was scheduled to go for a fourth fill on July 7th went last Thursday instead. Another .4ccs with much better restrction now. Doc not happy though because I have to go so long between Breakfast, lunch, dinner as I work ten hour days and I am going to long without food. Have to eat string cheese between meals now. I'll give it a shot and see if that helps so as not to consume as much food. Anyway, good luck on your next fill, I'm cheering you on from across the river:thumbup: as this might just be the fill that does it. I know where Ameristar is at :) and boy do I. Haven't been though in a number of years. Love to play cards, Texas Hold'em and BJ. Now have to spend that money on clothes which is a good thing:rolleyes2:. Thanks for the website definitely going to check it out. Definitely good luck on the fill.

Hello everyone!

I live in Shawnee, KS...Work downtown KCMO...and also work in Manhattan, KS for KSU. So I'm all over the place. My stupid insurance company approved everything on the first go back on 4/29/10, but for whatever reason they haven't sent the letter. I could go on...but I don't want to bore you.

I'm really excited that there are many in my area to relate to. I went to an informationa meeting 2 years ago and the next day was told that I have insulin resistance. I've spent all this time living a low carb life. Which wasn't to bad...other that fries! Not a bread person and don't like cake or Cookies. I hate chocolate too...don't stone me!!!!

Anyway...I hope to have some friends here to communicate with.:smile2:

Welcome KS_. Lots of friends here to support you.

Oldone - Savers is @ 95th & Nall. Thrift stores and consignment stores are also an affordable resource. Don't want you arrested for public exposure.

KS_I'm with ladykcusa there is a lot of support here.

ladykcusa-Thanks for the reply. Not familiar with the store but definitely with 95th & Nall. Also thanks for reminding me of consignment stores didn't even think of those. You are awesome. So glad you are on this sight. You are so helpful.

I think why I didn't think of consignment shops was that I was hung up what could be on the evening news "68 year old woman arrested at the new Overland Park Dunkin Donut for indecent exposure when pants fell to the floor because of recent weight loss surgery my Malley Surgical and lady is too cheap to buy new clothes because of this"

Thanks again ladykcusa.

To Dr Malley patients:

How did your procedure date go? What about you pre-op diet? Any extras about you experience will help getting ready "mentally".

I'm just that person that has to know every thing.

Thanks,

Thanks,

KS_I actually cannot speak as a patient of Dr. Malley as I selected Dr. Hitchcock who is with Malley Surgical. That was because prior to his association with Malley Surgical he was an associate professor with KU Medical Center and I had worked there during his tenure. He was actually a bariatric surgeon with Shawnee Mission, prior to Malley Surgical, teaching KU Interns. So I knew his 25+ years in bariatric surgery would be helpful to me with my health conditions. But I will say I have heard nothing but praise regarding Dr. Malley. To me this is a great group. Now I had my surgery at New Hope Surgical Center as an out patient. Was scheduled for the surgery about two 1/2 weeks from the date the approval from the insurance was received. Once I received the pre-op diet in the mail I went on it, which was two weeks. As first I thought I couldn't do it. I was allowed two Protein Shakes (I use Unjury which is online) and a Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine for dinner and of course Water, water, and more water. In the end I didn't have a problem with the pre-op as I thought I might. I seen the surgeon a week before surgery. The day of the surgery, 3/17/10, all went well. I arrived at New Hope, 435 & Nall, at 6:30 AM. Was escorted to my room and the nurses (two of them) actually started preparing me for surgery scheduled at 9:00 AM. My surgeon stopped in three times before surgery to check on me and to see if I or my husband had any questions. The anesthetist checked in twice before surgery and asked if there were any questions. Then at 8:45 AM I was wheeled into the operating room. I remember looking at the clock at 9:45 AM when the anesthetist awoke me telling me that I had done just great. I was back in my room. He again checked on me a little later and the surgeon checked on me at least twice more. During this whole time still had the two nurses checking on me. About 11:00 AM or so had to have the fluroscope, which is nothing actually, to make sure the band is in place and not leaking. Shortly there after had to use the "girls room" and once that was complete was released to go home. Home and in my recliner at 2:00 PM. In fact I slept in the recliner (my choice) for the next week. Had some discomfort, and used the pain medication and gas-x for about 24 hours starting around 7:00 PM that evening and took the last dose of pain medication the next evening about the same time. Nor did I get sick to my stomach, as some patients do. I was off work for a total of 10 days, there again my choice.

Now in regards to the mental challenge. To me it was like my dieting for the last 40 years. Yo-Yo. Should I do it, should I not? What are my choices, die in about five years or prolong it. You see I had failed with dieting so many times that I had become comfortable with my size because of the failure attitude, scared I would fail at this also. (I totally hate getting on the scales because of the failure mentality I have, but I'm working on it). I know that the band is only a tool, but with a little work, I will keep the weight off, prolong my life and stay productive. More than I was able to do in 40 years of dieting. Would I make this choice again if I had too, you bet I would in a heart beat even if there were no health issues. With just the few pounds I have lost, definitely have more to go, I haven't felt this good in six years and I was feeling like I was 85 years of age prior to surgery. Just three months ago I was that woman in the go-cart in Wal-Mart and now I out distance my husband in walking. Oh, what a change this has made in my life. My decision for LAP-BAND® is also based on the fact, if necessary, the band can be removed.

Don't really know if this will help you, but I hope so. Again this is a great site to ask questions, to research, etc. You are doing right by asking so you can make the right choices for "you".

Yeah, that helped. I've been thru enough surgeries in my life that I'm not concerned about that part. And the after isn't really a concern either. I just wanted to know about the pre-op diet and the day of.

I hate taking pain meds and so far that is the only thing I'm really concerned with. I'm also a time control freak. I like to have all my time accounted for. I plan a lot of activities for me and my daugter.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
