Hello! I'm new to the board and would love to join this thread. My surgery date is April 15th with Dr. Michael Snyder in Denver, through Rose Medical Center. I'm nervous, but excited. It's been great to read posts on those of you who have so recently gotten your bands. Thanks for all the great tips!

I've been away for a few days and I feel like I've missed so much. So many have had their surgery, and so many - Montynic and Mamasugar - are well on their way to feeling like themselves again. Glad things are going well Ladies! I look forward to hearing about marketing, post-op dieting, gas pains and general recovery stuff. I'm scheduled for Pre-op testing on Monday the 12th and my surgery is on Sunday the 18th. Can't believe it's SO close!

Hope mine goes as well as all of you! Oh and congratulations to all of those banded on the 6th, 7th and 8th!!

Froggy, you're Friday, tmr, right? Good luck!!

Ravyn,

I had mine on Wednesday and it is behind me. I am feeling good and learning to drink without gulping and taking in air. My incisions are sore but overall it was easy.

Best of luck to you!!!!!!!!!

It is Friday and I got my band on Wednesday. I am doing really well.

I have had my Protein today (protein powder in soy milk and in chicken broth) and working on the rest of my Water. I am sooooooo full. I guess from swelling.

I am not having any real pain, just soreness from the incisions. All my systems are finally working and today I walked 1.2 miles. Yesterday I walked a half mile. It was a beautiful day. Since I feel so full in my sternum area, I am guessing from swelling, it is a bit hard to take full breathes so I was a bit short of breath walking. I think that is probably normal.

It just feels really weird not eating. food smells good, but I know I could not eat. Already missing the taste, however.

Wow - it is done and it went by so fast.

Anyone else have a feeling of slight let down after the high adrenalin rush of getting banded is over?

Well it is day two I finally got some sleep yesterday went to bed about 10:30 p.m. and slept till about 9:30 a.m. was up and down a few times a couple times putting the heating pad on my shoulder and once for meds. I am still taking my Loratab every 4 hrs on the dot. Wish I didn't have to but still in pain. I felt a little better this morning got up drank some chicken broth to loosen up some mucus and drank some Water and an Isopure. A couple weeks ago our transmission went out on our van so we went car shopping we need a reliable vehicle to get to work, and me back and forth to the Dr. had no luck vehicles are really expensive and I was in pain and moody, walked about 2 miles, have had alot of gas. It is awful when you are so excited to fart. LOL. Now my shoulder is starting to hurt again pretty bad been taking the gas-x strips all day. My port site hurts pretty bad too it is bruised which they said may happen. I have also started my period which totally sucks that just adds more pain and bloating to everything else. Crossing my fingers for a better day tomorrow. I am on Clear Liquids for a week than I move on to full liquids. I am not hungry at all I ate a Jello tonight and some chicken broth and have had to force that down. There is alot of gurgling going on in there does anyone else have that I am figuring that it is gas. ?

Froggie- I said the same thing to my husband today that wow I can't believe I am banded and it is in there it all went so fast. LOL.

Today is day 4. I was banded on Tuesday. I think I overdid it yesterday because it was hard for me to get up and move. I tried going back to work yesterday. I also need help with getting my Protein in. I am okay drinking one Protein Shake but 3 make me want to cry.

Have you tried Nature's Best Isopure Zero Carb from GNC? They come in 6 different flavors I like Alpine Punch and Blue Raspberry they have 40g of protein. It is a nice change from Protein Shakes. I can not tolerate protein shakes. Also there is the whey Protein Shots they have 42g of protein they are really thick sort of like cough Syrup but it is only a 3.4oz tube so not to bad I have to hold my nose when I drink this one though. Hope you can find something good switch it up a little and it wont be so bad. Take care.

Twinserly - Thanks for the tips on the variety of Protein Drinks. I've been drinking the Atkins and they're putrid after you've had one. I really need to stock up this week. Guess I'm off to GNC! Oh and I hope your shoulder pain goes away soon.

Froggie it sounds like you're doing great!! You give me hope! LOL!

Hi all,

I am going to be banded on the 23rd and it is great to read through all of your experiences to help me through some of the questions and nervousness. I am going to go get Protein Shakes etc tomorrow. It sounds like the Isopure stuff at GNC is a good idea along with some sort of Protein shot or shake to break things up.

It is great to hear you all doing so well. I am diabetic and take metformin extended release.. does anyone have suggestions on this since it is such a huge pill I am sure I will have to do something about that one..

It sounds like walking a lot helps too..

Thanks! Tera

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
