Pre-op diet question...

Recommended Posts

The pre-op diet IS rough - no doubt about it. However, think of BIG picture. In a year, you won't even remember these weeks - these are just a drop in the bucket.

I had to do 3 weeks (23 days!) of a medi-fast pre-op diet - yes, it was fairly miserable. But, I kept the goal of surgery in mind - I lost 26 pounds pre-surgery and it's really designed to make the surgery safer for you and for you to be more successful.

And, think of it this way, too - the post surgery puree diet is a cakewalk compared to the pre-op diet! I've never been so excited to see yogurt and pudding in my life! :frown:

My surgeon has an extremely high success rate BECAUSE of the fact that they insist on, at least, a 2 week pre-op diet for EVERYONE. Honestly, that makes me feel better knowing that I'm in competent hands and it's done for my health.

Keep on trucking! I know it's hard but you can do it!

I agree with you on the big picture stuff and the pre-op diet being a relative drop in the bucket.

My surgery is March 2 and I think the pre-op is only as miserable and rough as you make it in your head. I am on day 15 of 21 days through mine and haven't really felt hungry or like I was missing out on anything.

I went into this with a positive attitude and focusing on the end result and not what I wasn't eating or drinking.

Honestly, I didn't have a lot of pain. (I have a very high pain threshold, however) My throat hurt a little from the tube but that disappeared quickly. I was groggy from the anesthesia but Day 2, I was up and at 'em!

You will have some "gas issues" from them pumping air into your stomach BUT...get up and walk every couple of hours and it shouldn't be too bad. I didn't really have anything too severe there - just a tad bloated.

Some incision pain, mostly from the bigger incision where my port is - but, nothing unbearable.

My port hurt for a couple days - but it just felt like an internal bruise and I couldn't lay on that area and definitely couldn't wear jeans!

Again - no MAJOR pain, just minor annoyances. Listen to the surgeon and nurses and you shouldn't have any problems.

I don't work - I'm a stay at home mom. But, I was back to doing laundry and "working" after about Day 3. (no heavy lifting though for 2 weeks)

Your surgery is going to be AWESOME!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
