2 Days out, can I be hungry already?

Hi,

I was banded Wednesday morning and woke up today to a hungry, gurgling tummy.

I'm still sipping on 1 oz. of liquid every 20 minutes and am having protein powder in skim milk right now, hoping the protein will decrease the hunger. It is normal / typical to feel so hungry at this point? I'm feeling queasy from it. That was always common for me, getting that icky feeling from being overly hungry.

thanks for any advice,

Jennifer

I got my protein shake from walmart after spending a fortune on the unjury the dr recommended and it was gross. Anyway I freeze the choclate just till its frozen enough to eat like frosty and it taste just like wendys frosty. I also got the vanila and i freeze it. it is even good to drink it just keeps me full longer for some reason if I freeze it. I find that very weird, but it works. Are you aloud soups that are creaming as long as thin. I blended a lot of soups like potato soup etc. Hope this helped

I thought I was hungry two days out too but you're really not. Everything just looks so good and savory while you're sipping this cold, sweet stuff! Keep the Protein flowing! Try a popsicle or jell-o to curb that head hunger.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. My husband heard my tummy rumbling - yep it got that loud - and pestered me until I called the surgeon's office. It's normal, and they consider it a good sign, if you begin to get back feelings of hunger. They said to up the Protein in skim milk and I can have soft / mushie food tomorrow. DH went and got some applesauce and mashed potato mix.

I feel better knowing this is normal.

I was also banded two days ago and am having the same problem - I've been hungry all day. But, I also think my problem might be that I miss eating. So far today I've had 2 cups of decaf tea, two small cups of sugar free jello, a sugar free popsicle and a cup of chicken broth. I finally feel full after the chicken broth. I can't wait until day 4 when I can start with protein shakes and yogurt - I think that will be a lot easier.

Oh yes...I remember those days! I was STARVING by 2 or 4 days post surgery. This is just the beginning of "Bandster Hell" Where you have the band, expect NOT to be hungry, but are hungry just like you used to be. Once you start getting fills, you have to rely less on willpowere

EXCEPT you may always struggle with making good choices because carbs go down easier than proteins for many people!

The RN at my surgeon's office was a riot when we spoke, she pointed out hunger was good since it meant swelling was going down. I agree this is good, but man... hungry sucks.

As Queen Fig stated you should get used to it. I'm one fill in (6weeks out of surgery) and still hungry! It's everything I can do to maintain and not gain. Can be depressing but sometimes it takes 5-6 fills to get true restriction. Best wishes!!!

I was band 1/11/10 and i felt EXACTLY the same!! the growls from my stomach were sooo loud! it was keeping me up at night. when i went to my 2 weeks check up my doc said it probably wasn't hunger, it was gas bouncing up and down inside...i think it was hunger. but by day 5 i felt fine and really haven't been hungry since except right before meals. Hope this helps!! it only gets better from here! good luck
