Hey Everyone,

I keep reading about using gas-x strips for the post-op shoulder pain due to the gas used to pump up the abdomen during surgery.

I am curious how these would help, as they are designed to help gas inside the stomach not outside the stomach?

I am 2 years post-op, so my question is theoretical at this point for me. But I cannot see how something for the digestive system would work for that pain. (Obviously I did not try them )

I wondered the same thing, but bought some anyway. I tried them and they didn't work for me. Really, the only things that helped was walking (to work it out of my system) and a heating pad (for when I'd get an intense pain).

I am almost two weeks post-op. I bought the strips on my way home from the hospital and the box is gone. Although I did walk quite a bit and drank a lot of water, I had minimal gas pains...I only had the gas "release" going on during days 2 and 3 post-op, but I've been fine! I don't know whether to attribute the lack of gas pain to the strips, everything else I did...or I was just lucky. Either way, I used them.

I used them per doctor's instructions. I was sick with a respiratory virus and wasn't able to walk too much for the first week. SO, I think they helped me. However, you do have to follow the instructions on the box in order for them to work properly.
