I just went to my first seminar also, and I can relate. Surgery is a big choice and it sucks that it has gotten to this point, but even though I am scared about the surgery and major life change, I know it is a tool that can finally help me be a success. Hang in there!

I attended 4 different seminars with 4 different surgeons. I felt overwhelmed at all of them to the point of tears. Feeling horrible that it had come to this point.

Left the first two feeling like I could do this on my own, that surgery was too extreme and then struggled with yet another attempt to lose and of course....then regain weight.

You will know when you are ready and when you find the right surgeon.

Although still feeling sad that it has gotten to this point. I am now looking forward to a new healthier me with the help and support of my lap band (my soon to be new best friend) these forums and my local gym!!!! :)

Anxiety is great!! It means that you realize that the lapband isn't a cure-all and there are changes you are going to have to make that will last forever!

Do plenty of research and look at the failures, not just the successful results.

Make sure you are ready to do what the successful people did and that you are strong enough not to fall into the same traps that the failures did.

and good luck!

I went to my first seminar in October 2008...left feeling that it was too extreme and I could do it myself. :)

Now, here I am in my second month of my required six month diet. :blushing:Had I just gone for it the first time, I'd (hopefully) be banded by now. But I wasn't ready then. Now, I realize I can't do it on my own and that this is the best thing I can do for myself. I've done a lot of research in the past year, so I know I'm ready for the changes the Band requires of its owner. I hope this helps. Good luck in your decision! I know it isn't an easy one...

Thanks all for your replies! I really know deep down it is right for me and feel pretty confident with who Ive chosen, as Ive done probably over a year worth of looking around and researching. Guess it is mostly feeling anxious and upset that ya it got to this point. Probably is the worst feeling, but the way I look at it...i CAN NOT mess this up as there are immediate consiquences (sp) if I do. Making it for me undoubtedly the way to go because there is i feel now no way i can screw it up or else ill pay for it by being sick.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
